This pleases me greatly. If this comes to pass I will have a hell of a problem justifying a console purchase over getting another PC and plugging it into my living room TV

Of course not. You're all a bunch of filthy liars.

...I kid, I kid. Still, it's nice to be able to visually verify something. I suppose. I'm not going to bother, but still.

So a new feature that I will not use and will bloat and slow steam down even further. Great something else that makes me feel steam is becoming too fat and listless.
Oh no, a feature that millions have been asking for years, that is only a rumour, how dare steam offer such great abilities such as this! dam them to hell!

Finally, a use for all the games I bought and never play! Stupid Steam sales, tempting my wallet with their ridiculous savings.....

Aw, don't be like that. All you need is a good friend. You know what they say [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDOt4Mp4Pu0]

"Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it's time to quit."

I like this. How many other programs have "Just so you know..." in their pop up messages?

This is one of two things the Xbone looks to be doing better than Steam, and Steam is stealing it! Add a system that lets us trade our retail games (and maybe disable the required patching of single player games?) and we'll be friends again, Steam.

Maybe.
You'll "maybe" be friends again? But you've even gone so far as to link your Steam account with the Escapist, according to your badge, so it sounds like you are pretty firmly friends.

If the Steam client is slow on your computer than you need to stop rocking that Pentium 4 with the FX5200.

If this actually gets added in, and is a convenient, not overly restrictive feature, it will go a long way toward making me actually respect Valve as a company that puts their money where their mouth is.

This, I can live with. In fact, this will probably delay me and my friends purchase of next gen consoles, because this can really help us both save some money. I tend to buy big titles on launch day in steam, but my friends PC sometimes throws some fits about this. He likes owning titles he enjoys, a lot, however he`s going to school now and is pretty much broke. So he can`t afford to take chances with a game working, or him enjoying playing it. With this, he can sample the game off me, make sure his computer doesn't light on fire, and make sure he enjoys the gameplay.

Overall this is just a great feature. I won`t be surprised if loaned titles don't work while your in offline mode, which is pretty reasonable in my book. having a warning saying "your friends playing this, booting it up will tell him its time to get off" Is such a simple way to say "One player per license at a time, please"

If this happens, oh man will I be pleased.

Captcha: Party on, Garth! Garth must be the one responsible for coding these features, in which case, he deserves this party.

Now that sounds awesome. The moment I saw this on X1's list of features, I wished Steam had it.
Honestly, it sounds too good to be true. But if it happens (and it has no strings attached), I'm Valve's fan for life.

I'd "allow" them to restrict it to games bought from Steam, no retail discs :p

I only accept Steam and DRM under very limited conditions.

1) Cheap Games
2) Runs on Linux
3) Indie Titles

If MS, Valve, EA, Blizzard, or any other crazy outfit looking to hock DRM my way the only way I'll accept it outside of the above is.

A) Respect the Right of First Sale.
What's the point of confirming that my game is still my game every min of the day if I can't get rid of it?

B) Games must continue to work if the Internet is down or otherwise unavailable.
Sure I'll have to be online to buy, and install a DRM'd game, but If i'm in the military or go on some save the children crusade I'd like to have my entertainment work for the 3 to 6 months I'm away.

C) Give me back LAN play
Just because the Internet is down shouldn't mean my wife and I can't play a game together.

And yet another incentive to stick to PC for this next generation.

I await more details on just how flexible this system is (and if it will actually come to fruition) but this sounds promising.

I love this. Microsoft has a great idea for its console and Valve picks it up because it is a great idea. This is actually a good evolution of gaming, that all sides are adding something new that everyone can use, whether your on console or PC.

So either this is just a coincidence in timing, given Valve talked about adding sharing features of some sort some time ago. Or, Microsofts reveal of the Xbox One has pressured Valve into shortening the release window for the feature.

Either way, I like this. As long as the feature isn't too restricted in its use, this can be virtually nothing but good.

It fascinates me that people still claim that Steam is "lagging their computer".

Granted, an occasional bug can cause issues, but...for the love of God, it's so low-profile I can't fathom how it's hogging system resources on any rig.

Just glanced at my resource manager. Steam is currently doing a myriad of things. Downloading a few games. Running several chat windows, including voice chat. And a host of other things. Yet, it's utilizing a whopping 27 megs of RAM and roughly 1% of my CPU. And, the hardware in this particular rig is the very definition of middle-of-the-road.

So, unless these people are running low-end hardware from 1999, I fail to see how Steam is "lagging" their machine. At least, by itself.

[sub]yes, there will be rare exceptions. But even then, if it's a constant issue in those cases then it's more a sign of a systemic issue with the computer, not Steam[/sub]

OK, taking bets now:

Since MS has taken back their sharing program, will Valve still go through with this?
I mean, sure, I HOPE so, but then, wo gives a **** about my hopes... What do you think?

Man, I hope Valve push this through (if it was a real thing to begin with).
But I'm afraid it's off the table. I don't know what are we betting with, but my bet goes to "not happening".
