Rumor: Microsoft Developing AAA Shooter for Kinect

Do I believe some developers are considering an FPS for the Kinect? Yes.
Do I believe that MS is interested in a "hardcore" or "Triple A" FPS for the Kinect? Yes.
Do I believe that such a game will be at all worth while? Not in the slightest.
And what do I think about this being done by a studio known for its casual and social games? I'll assume manic laughter is answer enough.

The Kinect is a brilliant piece of hardware and it seems supremely unsuited for a game that requires precision movement and aiming. Granted gamepads themselves do very poorly in this regard but even they seem like a better option than a technology based on flailing your arms and legs about. If someone wants to reinvigorate the space flight simulator with the Kinect I think they'd have a fantastic chance at pulling it off and pulling it off well, but an FPS seems unlikely.

Although I'm happy to hear they may be putting some attention into bringing triple A games to the Kinect, there's a reason why the trailers for NATAL showed some (brief) footage of a fighting game and not a shooter. I'm thinking a fighting game would be a lot better suited with the motion controls but still it could be interesting to see what crops up.

Look, I'm okay with Microsoft trying to please the people who bought their consoles before they got all lovey dovey, but this better not be a Halo game. Why? Because not only will it make me angry, it will cause Microsoft's "hardcore" fan base to run to the PC or Sony leaving Microsoft to just be an American Nintendo.

Wanna here the irony in this? I HAVE A KINECT!..... yeah, it sucks.

So AAA shooter = hardcore gaming device?
Someone tell Nintendo to make a AAA shooter so the internet can stop bitching!

Serious: The mentality "shooters = hardcore" is one of the things gaming as an industry and we as consumers need to get rid of, the sooner the better. Still, a shooter on the Kinect would be interesting. It might work, might not, but the result would be interesting.

Not content with having thousands of boring FPS' already, while also importing a very old gimmick, Microsoft thinks the best thing to do next is merge to two together

I would rather have something in my hands. This is ALMOST enough to get me to buy motion controlls of my PS3. Before you flame I have a 360, PS3, AND a PC.

The first question that comes to my mind is "Why?". It is, then, immediately replaced by the even more baffling question "How?!". I'm not convinced either question has an appropriate answer.

Goldeneye? I thought it was good (controls with wiimote + nunchuck = genius), but then again, it is Nintendo consoles exclusive made by Activision.

Not without some dedicated peripheral integrating an actual trigger/button for shooting precisely when you want.

Doesn't have to be as complicated as Move, but yeah. basically something like that.

A Kinect title for "hardcore" gamers? To me that makes as much sense as making porn for women. Sure, you could probably do it, and it'll sell a few copies, but I don't think it demonstrates a proper understanding of your market.
