"Set hundreds of years before Ocarina of Time"????

NINTENDO ALREADY SAID THERE WASN'T A TIMELINE! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE!?!
They did that to try and trick us. They know that the real Zelda fans wouldn't be dissuaded by that poppycock.
Well, duh. The split timeline theory is the one that makes the most sense (or it would if my head would stop hurting). I'm just saying that it would be nice if Nintendo would pick a stance and stick with it. They seem to flit back and forth, hinting at a timeline in the games but denying it when asked about it.

Twilight Princess was a fail so I'm glad they aren't going to go on after that one and are going to go back in time. I'm not going to lie, I lost hope in all the Zelda games after the epic game that was the WindWaker was over, but I hope that Nintendo will pull this one off. I promise not to criticize Nintendo for a whole year if this game is good(well, at least 6 months)

Soooooo...
Nothing.... has... changed?
I've always felt like I could freely explore in Zelda games...
I mean sure there are a few broken bridges (resisted the urge to link tv tropes) along the way, but once you get to the third act, there's nowhere you can't go.

"dungeons that won't have bosses at the end of them, as well as boss monsters in the open world."

That's the major change for me. I go through dungeons excited to encounter the boss at the end. The absence of one would be a big disappointment

quite a little game of telephone they had there in getting this information from the E3 speech.

Still, I trust that everyone behind Legend of Zelda won't change the game too much- that would just be too weird and original. Honestly, I would like to see something much, much different than the usual suspects doing the usual deeds.

Cos this just seems like Link to the Past, where 'find' in the the sentence- "find the Master Sword, to defeat Ganon and seal away his evil" is just changed to 'forge'

I know some people were taken aback to it, but I would like to see something a little bit in the future in setting (relative to zelda's timeline)
Different characters- different motives- something I haven't seen before.

I know its been said before, but Zelda has become making the best version of the same story.

Making it a prequel would require them to pretend there's some sort of logical continuity to the series, which so far they've been too smart to try.
There are direct sequels/prequels to Zelda games, though. Link's Awakening was a sequel to LttP, for instance. There's just nothing connecting the sub-series' together into one giant timeline.

As for the prospect of going open world, I'm all for it. A deviation from the formula would be good for the series as I really don't see how we could have another OoT or TP without the series getting stale. Granted, they do enough different each time that I doubt I'd tire of another entry that's just like the others. Nobody does Zelda as good as Zelda and there's not so many of them that we're inundated. Still, I'd love to see some major innovations.

This sounds unbelievably awesome. I'm hoping the rumours are true because I might actually get the game if it's the case.

I'm not sure I like this idea. The concept of dungeons has been a staple of Legend of Zelda since the very first game, and I don't think changing it so drastically would be good for the series. Boss monsters in the overworld, however, is something I could get behind.

My rumour-by-rumour breakdown (from http://www.zeldainformer.com/2010/06/breaking-news-latest-zelda-wii-rumors-confirmed.php):

  • [li]False. False.[/li]
    [li]V. probable. V. probable.[/li]
    [li]True. Unconfirmed.[/li]
    [li]Unconfirmed. Unconfirmed. Unconfirmed. Unconfirmed.[/li]
[li]Possible (rotating your sword to confuse a giant eye is sort of similar, so maybe it meant that).[/li]
    [li]True.[/li]
    [li]Unconfirmed (unlikely?).[/li]
[li]True. True. True. True. False. Unconfirmed.[/li]

Not a bad batting average, overall. Some of them were uncannily close.

Well, the only thing I want to point out is that picture. Unless this conceptual "open world Legend of Zelda" game has been in production since before the Wii was released (and was still being called the "Nintendo Revolution"), I doubt this is real.

I saw that picture years and years back. If this game does indeed exist and is in production, I'm hoping that the creator of this article is just using it as they had nothing more precise to go on.

Interesting. Still hesitant because of the motion controller fetish this game seems to have, but I'll definitely give it a look.
