Rumor: Nintendo to Release Bigger DSi?

Rumors are circulating the internet after a Nikkei Shimbun report stated that Nintendo was manufacturing a DSi with a larger 4" screen (compared to the current 3.25" one).

Now, I can't actually read Japanese, so as far as the Internet's word [http://blog.livedoor.jp/jim115/archives/51286284.html] on this:

According to the article, Nintendo will be releasing a new DSi with a larger screen (4 inches as opposed to 3.25) "in response to requests of older users." It's unlikely that the new screen would feature a higher resolution, so - if true - it'll just be a slightly bigger picture. The overall specs of the model would be the same, and it would retail for the same price - ¥18900 ($205.25, €138.54, £125.28) - as the current DSi.

The article says that Nintendo would be releasing this new DSi before the end of the year in Japan (is there a holiday season shopping rush in Japan? I honestly don't know), though there is no word on whether the device would ever see an official release in other countries.

Of course, this is completely unconfirmed as of yet, so as always take it with a grain or ten of salt: "We think it's a speculative article," a Nintendo representative told Famitsu [http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1228894_1124.html], with Nintendo of America dismissing it as a mere rumor. So, I wouldn't start lining up to buy your new larger-screen DSis just yet.

Wow a DSi that's like 4% better for us to buy instead of our current one at full price!

Forget taking a couple years to make real innovation, every few months just paint the damn thing a different color and advertise it as something new!

THANKS NINTENDO!

So let me get this straight, people have decided to make things bigger again?
Here I thought making stuff the size of raisins was the set goal for technological perfection, guess they can't make up their minds.

I already own a DSi, so getting one with a slightly larger touch screen isn't exactly on my to-do list, but thank you for the interesting article.

What's wrong with their faces?!

Oh, and I might've bought a DSi. If they gave backward compatibility.

This is why I stopped buying nintend products. I buy a wii only to find out I have to wait almost two years for it to work right. They really need to stop making all these pointless peripherals. (The woman on the right scares me...)

Yeah I remember how I had absolutely no fun with any of the games I got for it before WiiMotion Plus. Which is why I kept buying games and played Brawl for hundreds of hours. So painful.

and in case you missed the sarcasm: "what?"

Er, how does a larger screen size with the same resolution mean lower picture quality?

All those fools that bought 50" 1080p TVs must be kicking themselves for not buying their smaller 40" cousins. ;-)

Er.

...brainfart on my part, apologies. The post has been edited to reflect me not having a moment of "durrr"

I didn't even like brawl so that never sold me on the consol. Granted I did love Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy but other than that and a list of maybe 20 or so games the wii doesn't have much going for it. I do however like the DS I'm just sick of Nintendo releasing and endless amount of attachments. Seriously my cousin just bought Wii fit and now Wii fit plus is coming out. (And what the hell is the vitality sensor for?) I don't hate Nintendo games I love my Gamecube and N64 but the wii feels like a sellout. That is why I play my 360 and my cousins PS3.
