I play Runescape. I personally don't like when people don't give it a chance and just instantly say its bad. Some arguments against it are true but if you can get past those it is in many ways superior to WoW.

Plus it's free.

Jagex has only just announced that they would be returning PK'ing and free trade on the 1st of feb...allthough it is a huge part of the game, that means theres probally only 2 real updates next month, 3 if they either avoid a no weeker or release somthing with pking.

runescape never really grabbed me... though i do wish i could introduce a few hundred people/new generation to meridian 59 (free) and see what happens. learning curve may be too steep for most new players on an established server though

Runescape was fun in Grade 7 and 8, but I got WoW after that and never looked back.

I was a member for a while. I'll give it this much: It has some great quests that make full use of its limitations. Instead of simple gathering or fetch quests, you're investigating a haunted house, or journeying across the land for mystical armour to eventually slay a dragon. The wilderness was also fun, and I believe Runescape had the best cooking system I have yet to see in a game. Want to make a pie? Make dough, fill the pie pan with the dough, put in the filling, then put the pie top on. Then cook it. And it might burn if your cooking isn't high enough.

Fun days, but I don't think I'll ever go back. It's a great MMO for kids and people curious about MMOs, but once you've played some big budget games, it's tough going back.

Basicly this I played it when I was 10-12 but once I got into WoW I never looked back. Some quests are a lot better then most of the WoW quest I will give them that. The quests are great.

However everything else is lacking the combat is dull the skilling up takes ages to complete making it a huge huge timesink.

Oh, man, there were some good times I had on RS. I had to take a mandatory 5 year sabbatical, though, and it kind of sucks that the wildy isn't the same. I feel like a veteran going back to give a speech at his old HQ and finding out they've changed everything... It's kind of sad, really. Of course, if the OP's serious, and the wildy is coming back, I'm going to have a lotta catching up to do.

Ahem... and about that comment: Me and my girlfriend are kind of a distance thing at the moment. We've been that way for a while. RS is how we hung/hang out. Don't knock it, mate. It was the only real option we had at the time, and if the OP is right and the Wildy's getting fixed, it might become a regular thing.

Then, I quit, partially because of the awful community.

I hate just about everything. The graphics, chat, combat, quests, most of the systems, ext. It is one gigantic, mind numbing grindfest.

And I still loved it, and occasionally go back and play it a bit.

EDIT: Yay for free trade, meh for wildy. I wil ladmit I was very confused when I came back to it after a couple years and found the wildy was no longer pvp >.>

I enjoyed a lot of my time on Runescape, except for when I was younger and tried my hand at the team-based mini-games... and this one prick I met in the dwarf city.
Other than that, brilliant times all around.

Great game.

I used ot be into runescape when I was younger

then I won free membership and I was really into it, I really got into the quests which are actually really good and then I began to see the charm of the runescape world

but upon looking back I realised that other than the quests I didnt like the PVP aspect of the game and I thourght I might as well be doing somthing offline

I like the world of runescape but it's presented poorly and it is almost entirely repetitive grind and uninteresting quests. I did like the dungeons though.

I played it for maybe a year around... four years ago. I stopped playing because I found it dull and unexciting, yet I still hung out on the forums for maybe another year.

Man, I'd do anything (but pay the $5) to get back on the forums to see if my friends are still on there. Probably not; a lot can happen in that time.

The MMO as a whole: It's... okay. The quests are unique, it has this good little charm, and it's optional if you want to pay. But the fact that JaGEx has a stick up their ass about censorship really ruined it for me.

I tried logging in like two years ago and realized I had forgotten my password. Oh well.

Man, can anyone fill me in on what transpired the last few years?

See, I have several RS accounts, and I can't do anything with them. Maybe it's simply because I have a short attention span, but I can never seem to play RS before I get bored with it. But, because I can't seem to get into WoW, I guess RS is my favorite MMO...

i dont see how people like runescape, there is literally hundreds of free mmo's and most of them are better then runescape, just go to mmohut and bask in all of the free mmo's that arent runscape

Edit: although personally I find that people evaluate the game based on the free version and judje it without trying the pay version.
