Biking then?
Less impact on knees.
That doesn't solve the burning lungs problem though. I used to have some heart regurgitation and I think that's what causes that. I ran a 9 minute mile in eighth grade once as part of the fitness stuff. Thought I was going to have a heart attack.

I started running about 2 weeks ago. I am a fat bastard but I used to be much fatter. I run a little over 2 miles and do it 6 times a week. I'm not exactly swift, about 11:30 min per mile(was about 15 min per mile) , but I'm improving at a steady rate both speed and endurance wise. Started running cause I want to join the military and after getting schooled while working out with some Marine recruits it became apparent that I needed to start building my cardio. My best mile was 9:40ish in 5th grade which was a long time ago and in high school my average was about 12:30.

My goal is to run the 2 miles in under 18 min and after that I'll start adding distance.

I don't listen to music yet because I run early when it is still quite dark(and I need to focus on my breathing and where any cars may be) but I'll end up listening to Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Static X, a little Killswitch Engage, various epic sounding tracks, Powerman 5000, or anything that gets the blood pumping.

I run cross-country, for reasons I can't quite remember.
When it's not the off-season (Bloody winter) I run about 4-5 miles a day, more if I'm pushing myself.
I like XC, it's the only no-cut sport, and speaking as the six-foot weakling who is picked last even for basketball, that appeals to me.
I don't listen to music when I run, mostly because the bloody earbuds fall out every step and a half.

Damn man. That sucks. I felt that way too, but I was like, obese. I didn`t really have any medical issue.

There has to be something you can do. :(
When I was five I was told to "avoid rigorous exercise" and caffeine. Not so much the caffeine. The worst part is that I'm rail thin and there's no real sport I'm aware of where being skinny is good that doesn't require cardio. So I play video games.

I can't run too quickly or for too long. Still, I got second place in high school for the 800 meter dash, just behind someone who was actually on the track team. Strange because sprinting for about ten seconds pretty much kills me.

And being a hipster on accident, I usually listen to random people I found on the internet.

I lost my ability to run for long distances since i injured my ankle 8 years ago. Doctors say the can't find anything wrong with it, but you tell me somethings no right when one ankle feels like its been running for over a mile when its only been a hslf mile

I used to run until I realised I hated it =/

But I probably hate it now because I found that runners are vein, pretentious pricks (be honest) or maybe that was just the running club I was with.

I know shouldn?t need a club but after a while I found it was the most boring sport exercise (maybe due to lack of races and such)

Heh, from the title I thought you were talking about Guild Wars runners. No I don't run although I do like to dash.

Air quality here is terribad and I have asthma. Any running I do is inside on a treadmill. Not only is it easier to deal with but there's a giant HDTV with surround sound readily available.

Haven't timed myself recently but I can jog at a decent pace for a good mile and a half before getting tired. I run one day then weight train the next day and so on. Usually a two mile run with a mile long dog speed walk.

Yeah, fortunately, I'm built for running. I used to hate it, but after being shown proper techniques from a captain in the army and being forced out of my comfort zone, I can finally say I can run. I can average about seven minute miles, and I've run up to distances of 10 miles. Daily, I run about 2 miles.

Incidentially, most gamers are certainly not fat bastards.
Me neither. Half because it is boring (I only have my brother to run with, and I don't want to go running with him), and half because my neighbourhood is filled with large dogs (and running alone through streets where every second/third house has a territoial dog that could kill me just makes me nervous. If I had someone to run with, then it wouldn't be a problem, because a)strength in numbers, and b) it means I am less likely to be taken by surprise)
I mostly lift weights and train my body in a different way,
Though to be honest, if you do endurance training you get better blood flow to your muscles as well as a higher lactate threshold, meaning you can get more power for longer if you combine both types of training.

Yea, I'll run when it's warmer out but I usually bike instead when working out outside. It can be really relaxing, though, after you go out and do it enough that youre no longer focused on how physically tired you are, build up some muscle and improve your cardio health it becomes much more fun and easier to make yourself do it. The initial hurdle is the challenge.

I ran a lot this past year and wound up with shin splints like a week ago. I have to say the stationary bikes at the gym are not as fulfilling as running.

Also, I run a lot from ultimate frisbee.

I started running a couple months ago because I'm trying to lose weight. Right now I go three miles in about 24min. I'm going to start going to 3.5 soon.

I haven't been able to run this week though because my ankle has been bothering me and I got salmonella. At least I picked a good time to get food poisoning so my ankle could rest.

I'm down 25 pounds! WOOT!
