Does anyone know any good books about Russian mythology and folklore?

I've become interested in Russian traditions, superstitions and the like and I'm trying to find some really good, comprehensive books on the subject. Unfortunately, Amazon isn't hugely helpful. As I don't know a huge amount, I won't be able to tell where the information is correct. As most of the books aren't rated, they may be absolute tripe. The Wikipedia page has been enlightening but also unhelpful as most of the information isn't cited.

I know this is a long shot but if anyone has any recommendations they would be appreciated!

Wikipedia? The article on Russian mythology will have links (the sources) to other sites and things about Russian mythology, in addition to the article itself.

I have a small interest in Russia myself, but I was focused on the politics and the effects of the 'communist' government.

Unfortunately, nope... though I've read a few Russian fairytales during my kid-years (e.g. Ivan Bull; The Greedy Fox & Kuzma Getrich; The Dazzling Falcon Finister). Not sure how much use that would be to you...

Still, it depends on what you define as 'Russian' mythology, as I'm sure they'd have several (geographic) variants: Novgorod; Crimean; Siberian; Finno-Ugric; and even Mongolian (probably only be influence rather than being direct).

Any with Russian fairytales, I assume. Although I have no idea how many are there in English. A quick Amazoning gave me this [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_11?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=russian+folk+tales&sprefix=russian+fol%2Cstripbooks%2C176], which seems to be a good start. I found a mythology wiki but it seems to be awfully lacking in anything Russian like. There was only an entry for Slavic mythology, but there weren't any articles associated with it. So, it's probably down to books and Wikipedia.
