Russian navy versus Somali Pirates

So I got shot this link by a friend of mine. WARNING it's kind of in poor taste with it's music, but not necessarily NSFW.


I'm kind of gobsmacked, I mean it's hard to work out if there's peole in those boats or not, but if there are, wow...that's brutal.

Regardless I guess the point is don't screw with Russia.

What are they supposed to do?

Their job is to protect Russia's shipping lanes and that means eliminating pirates. There's only two ways to respond to an identified Somali pirate vessel at sea and fulfill this role at the same time: attempt to capture the vessel, which will result in small weapons combat, or blowing the ship up with your giant ship. And frankly, the military should stick to what it does best, which is kill things. I'm not a fan of the military capturing low level enemy soldiers.

That was awesome? What more is there to discuss? Pirates steal things, resources, and supplies nations need. Doesn't make the art of thievery anymore justified because they are from a poverty stricken nation. A king stealing bread and a peasant stealing bread are equal wrongdoings.

Looks fake. I know that at one point some Somali pirates captured a Russian vessel full of tanks and the Russians had to send special forces in or whatever, but I would be surprised if the footage of the guns and the footage of the boats here are actually from the same incident. I think some clever editing's been used until I get proof otherwise.

Just because something is the right thing, doesn't necessarily mean it should be enjoyable to watch. I mean I'm pretty sure this is fake, by which I mean the boats are empty, but the yippie shoot nature of this still unnerves me.

Ever hear the CIWS or deck guns go off? Sounds like the fucking heavens are splitting apart and will give you an instant war-boner.

They're basically given the go ahead to wreck a bunch of targets that barely have the ability to provide effective return fire. It is pretty much shooting fish in a barrel, but that's what makes it so fun. You get to ruin the badguys and they can't really put up much of a fight.
