I see. Not a bad idea, if you think about it.

Side note: I will give my entire weeks pay to charity if no one makes a "in Soviet Russia" joke.

In soviet Russia, no one makes Soviet Russia jokes due to fear of being labeled a capitalist pig and sent to the gulags.

OT: Would play for a while.

Russia has a very nice history, all be it violent, and would make for a fairly easy MMO.

But I would see it better played out as a series of games instead, much akin to other series of games slowly progressing through the times of whatever subject they might be focusing on.

As a Russian, I can tell you this will probably go nowhere.

I mean Russian game developers are good at 2 things
1) Flight simulators (IL-2 Shturmovik)
2) Tactical games and strategy.

A WoW-level MMO is just not possible from scratch. He'd have to out-source

honestly, they could do wonders with a factual historical strategy game.

Something like a mix of Total War and Civilization would be something to think about.
Gosh, if there was something like a cold war diplomacy sim, I'd be in heaven.

Also, Il-2 is the best flight sim since Aces of the Pacific.

Following Medvedev's comments, Russian Premier Vladimir Putin took off his shirt, shot a Siberian tiger and made love to several women in the audience.
I feel like this was overlooked. I'm still chuckling fifteen minutes later.

Russia has some good parts to it, up to where they decided to invite Austria and Prussia to dinner and served Poland for the main course back in the 1700's. After that their notoriety averaged a steady downfall. I think what he would be looking for is a game where people can play as Russian citizens living in the future doing funky scifi things, and along the way they discover lore about Russia's history. I can see that working if the main gameplay is engaging enough. I am not about to dismiss this when it stands as a point in gaming's favor.

You're forgetting the mods, the vanguards of the revolution. Only they get to level up.
However they would get purged ever few years

No one notices these things anymore seeing as it happens every other day. In fact its a strange day if Putin hasn't taken his shirt off.

A total war campaign would be MUCH wiser. They already appear to be good at it since every building in Napoleon total war and had a page of information and so did every technology.

For a Russian, you know very little about the country's game industry.

There already is a Russian WoW-level MMO ? that's Allods Online [http://allods.gpotato.com/].

True.
I swtiched to consoles, so I only remember the old-school PC stuff: Казаки (Украинский разраб), Ил-2 and that's about it from the tip of my tongue.

I've heard of Allods back in my PC days. When it was single-player
How much is it's user-base

On consoles, the main Russian studios are Gaijin Entertainment (X-Blades, Death Track, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey) and Saber Interactive (TimeShift, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary). Right now, though, the main achievements are in casual and social games

Allods Online was made by the same developer as the old PC game (also responsible for Heroes of M&M 5) then sold to mail.ru. They are now working on another big MMORPG - Prime World.

I don't know what the user base is. Of course, a WoW-level MMORPG would not get a WoW-level user base. That ship has sailed. There was a discussion on a recent Escapist Podcast about whether it is at all possible to compete with WoW at this point.

And both were funded from other companies.
Medved expects a WoW now?

He wants to use it to train right wing terrorists who will attack leftist governments to discredit right wing ideals and grow sympathisers for the left.

Thus, with the new global support for the left he will spring forth and reform the Soviet Union!

I would play the shit out of any Russian type MMO. Even more so if it vaguely represents Metro 2033 in any way, shape, or form.
