So. The first season of the True Detective has come to an end.

I for one have marvelled at the two main characters and their interactions throughout this season, perhaps the most dysfunctional pair of detectives I've seen, but most notably have enjoyed the character of Rust, and his portrayal by Matthew Mcconaughey.

There are some ridiculous quotes from this first outing of True Detective and I thought people would enjoy looking back on these characters.

To get the ball rolling on quotes, this is one of my favourite (although short) gems from Rust, not even sure why I like it so much:

"This place is like somebody's memory of a town, and the memory is fading. It's like there was never anything here but jungle".

Perhaps I am blinded by my excessive love of Matthew Mcconaughey since the beginning of his Mcconaissance, but Rust alone would've been enough to make me come back to this show every week.

What are some of your best memories or quotes from this season?

I like the ending line of the pilot episode - "Start asking the right fucking questions".
Loved True Detective. McConaughey was a very pleasant surprise. But I particularly like the fact that I found the show on my own, by chance while channel surfing. I usually take up other people's recommendations, but for once I found an amazing show on my own and passed it over to a lot of other people who loved it.

I. loved. that. line.

It gave the end of the first episode such an awesome feeling. I still say it to remind myself of what an awesome ending it was to the episode.

I found out about the show through American friends talking about it and saying I should take a chance on it. I can't say that I've heard anyone talking about it in the UK (where I live) though, dunno if it just didn't penetrate the market properly. I'll try to market it around myself!

It got pretty strong ratings for a debut program. Be interesting to see how it does in a season 2 with a completely altered cast.

McConaughey has been quietly re-inventing himself into an Oscar caliber actor for a few years now. Some wags in the entertainment industry like to refer to it as "The McConaissance".
