It's here!

The intro for RWBY Volume 2! Let's give it a look through shall we?

[ol]
[li]Two main teams are back.[/li]
[li]First shots of Velvet and her team in action.[/li]
[li]Glimpses of the villains (including some from the first season trailers).[/li]
[li]A large amount of skydiving for some reason[/li]
[li]Another kick-ass new song![/li][/ol]

So what are your thoughts on this new intro? Are you as excited for the new season as I am? Was there anything you would have liked to see more of in this intro? Finally, what are you hoping for from this new season?

Personally I would have liked to see some of Adam. He doesn't show up at all in this which is a little disappointing, hopefully he does show up in the season though. The episodes should be a consistently longer length this year as well which is very welcome news, waiting a week for only to get four minutes worth of footage can get a little annoying. Also, I'm digging the look of Velvet's team. Hopefully they'll be a good addition to the cast without taking away too much time from the rest of the characters.

EDIT:

I'm pretty excited. The first volume had its flaws but it I still enjoyed as its own show and as a Roosterteeth production.

The fact that they are going with 12 episodes of the 10min+ rather than splitting any of the episodes is welcome news to me. It was a fun little show and based on other Roosterteeth shows I expect it will improve over time.

Thank you for making a thread about this, I'd probably not have noticed it otherwise.

I am looking forward to it, Season 1 had it's fair share of problems but I still enjoyed watching it each week. I have heard they have fixed one of my largest issues and are doing more consistent and reasonable length episodes. Apart from that the only other things I'd like is a bit better pacing and the animation to be a little cleaner in some areas.

Both of which I imagine will improve as they get more experience making it.

All in all, I am happy to see it's carrying on. I hope we actually get to see this tournament they mentioned in the previous series. They made it seem like it was going to be the main story arc after they began school but then it randomly cut to the story with Jaune.

I'm psyched!

As usual for RWBY, the music is awesome (I'm already expected the Season 2 soundtrack to hit #1 on iTunes just like its predecessor did). I already downloaded the single and added it to my "RWBY Playlist." Pyrrah's new outfit (seen at 0:42) looks great and I can't wait to see the context for it.

Combine that with the news that the episodes have been lengthened and I'm expecting the show to be even better than before. The only thing they need to do is say "Nora gets more lines" and I'll be down for whatever Monty Oum comes up with :p

Not psyched at all really. The first season was pretty crappy in nearly all respects. And I don't buy the "They're just starting out, stop criticizing them!" argument that is so often thrown about with regards to this series. No, you put out a product, you are open to any and all criticism. And I didn't like it.

Agreed. Didn't really care for the first season. Thought it had some good points, but those were overshadowed by some really glaring problems. And this is rooster teeth we're talking about; they should know better.

Agreed with Sextus and Soviet; I watched the entire season of RWBY due to my love of RvB, the Animated Adventure shorts and the webcomic they used to do. I had many complaints and criticisms about Season 1, all of which will take watching entire episodes to see if it has been corrected or not. And like others, I don't think the argument "It's new!" holds water when they literally have the people who made RvB (which had major flaws in the beginning as well) in the same building where they can knock on the door and say "Hey, can you look at this and give me some feedback?". And the whole season seemed like they just didn't do it.

I'm going to wait for 3+ episodes are out before I start watching, and before I make any judgement about this season.

As a trailer, it's pretty well done. Even though I generally like the songs, I can't help but think she sings a little out of tune.

I'm cautiously optimistic about season 2 as I wasn't huge on the first season. The animation quality fluctuated drastically, the voice acting was occasionally painful and the story was a mess, especially that bully arc. But now, the universe is set up, they're more experienced and they've got a bigger team. Hopefully, it's better.

Agreed with some of the others though, they should've run it past the other members of RT to see what they had to say.

The falling out of the skies is soo cliche, I bet there is a trope on that (several anime intro had that!). Other than that I am pretty much stocked up for season 2 (I loved the effect that was given off fromt the girls like Ruby rose petal, Wiess snowflake, Blake smoke and Yang flame).

Also ye from the production diary 3, no more silhouette people! I thought originally it was a nice touch/ style to used in the first episode but as a continually effect it became annoying!

Write as I watch.

Ah, rose petals. Could only be more cliche if it's a metaphor for blood.

The person singing still can't sing. There are enough talented musicians who would kill to work for Rooster Teeth that I can't understand it, and don't excuse it.

At what point does stylistically minimalistic become just too lazy to design the background detail? I mean, I don't expect everything brick of the wall to be drawn, but white with some shadow effects is just... blurgh.

Background fire effects. Could I have more cliche, sir?

Oh, that's a nice transition from clockwork to showing us the bloke. That's quite nice.

Oh, that's a nice art direction... Oh, it's just a (VERY NICE) sketch being turned into (VERY POOR) 3D models. Never mind.

Why does Rooster Teeth also fall into the anime cliches of everyone under dressed? And why are they little girls fighting a war? And look, everyone is walking through fire.

And the walking animation is still fucked from first season.

And back to skydiving. Everyone's skydiving. I'm glad to know the Academy decided to go for the school discount. But seriously, the skydiving intro is also cliche.

And then the movement animation looks so creepy, the way they all instantly straighten up and plummet like strange needles, completely straight. And then the landing animation is also strange.

Oh, they're using the sketch animation again, I really like that. Is it the new fighting style animation? Because it's a big improvement. Although they just can't seem to figure out how joints in the body work. Everyone fights so wonkily.

Oh my god, please stop the over the top singing, you're not hitting the notes and you sound terrible. Seriously, there are some fantastic singers out there, give one of them $50 and a promise to give them a good reference. Hire them.

All in all, a resounding 'meh'. I think someone with more experience than Oum needs to take over, because he has nothing new or interesting to add to anime and if they don't refresh it, I think Rooster Teeth will drop them. He can do fight scenes (as seen by his work on Dead Fantasy and RvB), but his story and general interaction is just really fucking awful. He can't seem to motivate his voice actor, and his choice of camera angles is fucking mind-boggling. At least give him a few months of film class or something.

I'm pretty sure a good chunk of the forum understands my opinion of RWBY (or maybe they've forgotten? Meh.) so I'm not going to repeat myself for an fiftieth time. It would also be a huge waste of time since any analyse I do of RWBY always turns into a gigantic post of bitching.

Anyways, I'm not excited, but I am optimistic. I don't think RWBY could have been any worse than its first season was, and as such they have two directions they can go; RWBY can remain terrible, or it can improve. Which shouldn't be too hard.

EDIT-And I just noticed that the white people are still uber-white. It looks like they rubbed their faces with bleach.

*sigh*

Well, this is interesting.

Okay, time for some overanalysis. Music is still solid as the past season since that was one of the highlights

They seem to be going for a more watercolor or hand-drawn style of animation compared to the pure 3D that was in last season. Look better though not sure if it will sway the opinions of those who hated the show because of its art style and animation quality

There seem to be several teams shown in the opining: RWBY team, JNPR team, three additional team from Beacon, A team consisting of the headmaster and instructors, a military group with Penny in it, and the villain team with Junior and his two henchwomen in it. In addition, Cinder's team has been fully rendered: A man in gray/black atire who seems to be a counter to Yang using kicks and a Green haired tan women who uses two bone like sword and is a counter to Weiss.

The entire opening itself definitely seems ripped from an anime, from the falling from the sky, to the music and quick cuts

I have already expressed my hate for volume 1: animation was poor, writing was bad, not enough action, and the characters were tropes that were underutilized. The new op has given me some hope that it will have a better story and more action but we will have to wait and see

Edit: forgot to add, first episode will premiere at RTX running July 4-6, Further news states that due to the time gap, they had enough time to make each episode 8-12 minutes long instead of the 4 minute stuff we had
A few comments after seeing the trailer about 20 times. The new art style seems to be a bit pixilated around the edges of the characters and not that smooth, I wonder if this will cause issue for me

The battle emphasis is a plus but I'm still concerned. Since Monty insists that RWBY is an "American" anime, I and many others will review it as such and given that this is the second season, I will not as tolerant of bad characterization since that broke me

As long as they stop trying to focus on character development (which Monty can't seem to do very well), or at least bring in an extra writer from the RvB team or something, and bring the focus around to the action (which Monty does very, very well) it could be really good. Despite its admittedly pretty glaring flaws, I still enjoyed the first season and I'm definitely looking forward to the new one.

WOO HOO! It's ready, it's ready, it's ready!!!

I was disappointed when I realized the first season was already over here.

And it doesn't look like this one will disappoint either.

The first season had little story to offer beyond establishment of characters. I get it, but at the same time I don't think it worked very well, especially alongside the obvious shortcuts they took in the non-fighting animation. Also, the anime gags felt completely out of place despite the art-style because DESPITE the art-style, it's still a western show with western sensibilities.

That all said, the show wasn't really bad, and in fact had some really strong moments even outside of the epic fight scenes and a lot of potential considering how little story the first season had overall. From the previews I've seen it looks like they've worked on at least some of the flaws, so I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to call the second season "good." Maybe even good enough to elevate the first season, but time will tell.

My thoughts about the series so far were summed up at the season one wrap-up thread, by Mr. CaramalFrappe.
I think the show is quite flawed.
I like the music, action, and funnily enough Ruby herself (what can I say, I'm a sucker for that kind of girl).

The biggest flat, I have to say lie with the writing and non-action animation.
If they sort out the animation, I'll be a bit more satisfied.
If they fix the writing, I may as well shit my pants ... because those guys ... well ... eh.

I still will see the second season though, I remain optimistic but sceptical.
