Leonardo is the only one of those actors I don't hate. Is Zac Efron an actor? I thought he was singer, or some shit.

Well whatever. It'll be neat to see the wolf Jedi fight the vampire Sith.

Hey, that's quite the trifecta of actors there. Oh, Leo's out? Figured it sounded too good to be true.

Efron's an actor alright, he's just... kind of a work in progress. Unlike his other "High School Musical" co-stars, he's actually trying to make a name for himself... he just has to pick some better movies. It would be neat to see him cut his teeth in a new Star Wars.

I'd be stoked if Ryan Gosling was in it though. He's like a cooler, more talented version of Ryan Reynolds.

To be fair, The original Trilogy had popular actors for its time, And the prequel trilogy had many popular actors as well, it's hardly surprising Disney wants popular actors from today's age as well :p
I thought the main 3 at least weren't super popular. I know Mark Hamil was a TV actor and Harrison Ford was in American Graffiti but that's not on the level of this casting. I'll give you the prequel trilogy but it's not necessarily a sign of good things to come if it starts to have more stuff in common with the prequel trilogy than original.
I actually liked the Prequel Trilogy, i'm a rare one haha!

Jar Jar wasn't that annoying for me, it added a bit of humour, however i can see why fans of the original got pissed off at him.
First sorry for double post.

Second same! Phantom Menace is my favorite out of the six and as far as i can see Jar Jar is the only reason to dislike anything in that film
I didn't think he was annoying, like at all, i can see why fans are annoyed at him, but he isn't the reason to dismiss the entire film. and lets not forget without him Palpatine would never of gotten Emergency Powers.

And Clone Wars is my favourite, The battle of Geonosis was well executed in my opinion.

Ryan Gosling is pretty much great in everything, Zac Efron... I don't know, the only films I've seen him in are terrible so I don't know if he's actually a good actor. Leonardo DiCaprio is always a safe bet, he could probably pull of a Jedi role pretty well.

Hopefully this won't be an utter trainwreck, at least they're casting well. That said, a lot of the cast of the prequels underperformed, I mean, Natalie Portman was pretty bad and she's a brilliant actress. Just goes to show that a terrible script can ruin even the best.

i thought she was fine in the Ep 1 and 2, but yeh, pretty terrible in 3, especially when she confronts Anakin on Mustafar

I can't imagine what role Leonardo Di Caprio could play, though.
It's Di Caprio, he could play any role.

TBH him, Effron and Gosling is fine by me, they're all perfectly good actors. What it all hinges on is the script, Pattinson couldn't make Twilight good and the combined efforts of Neeson, McGregor, Portman, Mcdiarmid and Muthafuckin' L Jackson couldn't make the last three any less annoying.

With Disney in charge, I can't see this turning out well. Pirates of the Caribbean turned out brilliant, but they just threw a budget at Gore Verbinski as some kind of experiment. Once they got into the idea that the brand could make loads of money everything went to hell, I can see Star Wars being the same, they have a huge investment to protect and the result's going to be focus tested to within an inch of it's life.

Then EA are going to make the tie-in game.

I'll only mention that as much flak as Effron gets, he's actually a pretty good actor. And he's a nerd in his own right, which always seems to me to be a positive when making something like this. There's a reason Chris Evans is (for me) the best of the Marvel actors right now. He seems to be the one who is most excited about it, and most engaged with the material.

Effron wanted to make a Full Metal Panic movie, for goodness' sake.

I will second the defense of Efron. He's really not that bad. He just has this particular genre baggage which many are unwilling to let go.

That said, I think all of these would be horrible choices because of their recognisability and star factor. But hey, it's J. J. Abrams. I'm not really surprised. The dude has proven himself an expert at gentrifying beloved properties to such an extent that the source is all but lost in his gimmicks and indulgencies.

The man is a third-rate hack and a vapid filmmaker. I find it really annoying that he's enjoyed the success he's had.

I don't think any of them would work. Just imagining them as jedi is hilarious. Gosling could be a bounty hunter I guess, Efron maybe as Han's kid, Leo I just can't fit to anything. Maybe a politician or something? Good thing he isn't in, although he is a good actor.

Gosling will totally get typecast though.

I really don't mind who gets cast in the new Star Wars. I know that plenty of people will complain if they cast anyone vaguely well-known because famous people will ruin Star Wars, and plenty will complain if they cast unknowns.

The fact of the matter is though that until we know anything more about the new films - characters, story, etcetera - it's completely pointless complaining. Unless they cast Tommy Wiseau. Then we might have a reason to complain.

Also, Zac Efron was in Firefly. He is capable of acting without ruining everything he touches.

I'm ok with this, I doubt that neither of the actors will make the film any worse (unless the script is bad), and could only make it better.

A script is just a tool that actors use. Great actors can and will go off script, bring new insights to characters, and generally elevate even dubious material to the status of art.

On that subject, actors are tools that directors use. If every single performance in a film is terrible, it's not the fault of the script, and it's not the fault of the actors. It's the fault of the director. A film with a bad director is like a house with a bad foundation. Doesn't matter how good everything else is, the result is going to be wreckage.

Ryan Gosling would be interesting, though he'd have to do more than simply channel his Driver character.

And Leonardo di Caprio will probably spend the entire movie sceaming his lines to cover up his mediocre acting abilities.

You know, I couldn't stand dicaprio for a long time (mostly because of Titanic) but I have to admit that he has been getting better with age. His role in Django unchained was phenomenal. He plays a devious/eccentric character (like a rich person, politician, or administrator) very well.

Course he was eliminated from the three, which is a shame because he is the only one from the list that I like.

The problem with Leonardo DiCaprio is that when you watch him in a film it always feels like rather than watching a character you are watching DiCaprio playing a character, if that makes sense.

In any case, I think I'd generally prefer relative unknown castings for this, although maybe they could do something interesting with the vastly overrated Gosling.

This is my reaction when I heard this:

With that said, I don't I have seen Ryan Gosling in a movie that he speaks more than a couple of lines. I see why he likes to team up with Refn to portray near silent characters.

Zac Efron, please don't ruin the movie by casting him? Thanks.

Lol I hated clone wars with a capital H. The fight scene at the end was awesome true, but the whole love plot line through out the middle of the film ruined the entire thing for me.
