So one of their interesting features is a DayZ like free for all simulator?

I'll pass. DayZ was a bad idea to begin with, and it's only continuing to grow worse. I couldn't think of a worse thing to try and create, barring another WoW clone. So now all big FPS games are moving from arena killboxes to open world ones? There's absolutely no difference, no "immersion" and certainly no atmosphere. It's no different than any other FPS out there, you just now have more sniper distance so actual tactics beyond sitting in a treeline and camping are useless.

So the flavor of game for this next year seems to be of the "vague near-future apocalypse" variety. This is what, the third or fourth game like this to be announced? It can't just be a coincidence that all these developers are releasing them around the same time.

While it sounds interesting, it seems to be more of a "match by match" kind of game. I was hoping for a more STALKER-ish experience when I started reading this article. You know, a bit more RPG-element in the sense that you have one life, travel from "level" to "level" of the big game world and interact with NPCs and players. A STALKER-MMORPGFPS basically rather than a match-based MMOFPS.

EDIT:

To be fair, these guys have a bit of experience with that. They're not jumping on a bandwagon, they were already on it. Shadow of Chernobyl was pretty free-roaming (although unlocking new areas was very restricted and linear), but they sort of perfected it (in my eyes) in Call of Pripyat where you basically only have three, giant "levels" to explore and move around in freely and some separate subareas. And I felt extremely immersed exploring those levels, hunting for artifacts, killing zombies and looting stuff.

Looks more and more like this game will be the game I hoped STALKER would be. Just give me a big game world to explore, some tins of beans and Yorkie bars, and let me survive.

Im failing to see the "MMO" part of that description. It sounds more like just "MO"... games have had 32 or 64 player multiplayer long before people started thinking it was a good idea to make everything an MMO.
I was wondering if anyone else was thinking this. Seriously, this crap has apparently gotten to the point of simply *branding* everything an MMO, regardless of whether or not even the most ridiculous definition of the term applies.

Also, they're going to screw this up. :p
I think that is more about the persistency. I would call DayZ an MMO, yeah, it doesnt have a lot of player on the same server but it retains the same kind of experience, it even offers a better one in terms of interaction with other players

Meh, match based doesn't sound that great and I would still prefer another STALKER game maybe with optional co-op but mainly just another STALKER game.

The free mode sounds like it could be interesting and the game is going to be free to play so i'll give it a try.
