Sad story? I've got no spine, how's that? (Figuratively, of course. I've got the bony sort of spine.)

Back to comic books now.

Did you try... you know... ADDING SOMEBODY?

You can't just expect to make friends online after playing 1 game with them

It might depend on the game. I actually ended up with three friends right off the bat in Shadowrun, which was remarkably free of screamers.

Anyway, here's a sad story for you: I was a member of another board until recently. I'd been registered for about a year, but shortly after I became active on the board, it was hacked by... someone, and hijacked. What happened immediately afterwards was, myself and a pair of users coordinated on the IRC channel and set up a contingency board. We ran that for about six months. At that point the three of us and a pair of surviving admins from the old board were acting as admins.

Now, one of the three new admins was mentally unstable. We all knew this. He'd go off his meds, and go nuts with power. I remember an incident where he was editing a female moderator's posts into sexual advances. Needless to say, she freaked the hell out at him. A couple months later in IRC I'd come home from a shitty day on campus. I unwound by joking around with a friend of mine from the board, and Mr. Unstable goes completely off the deep end. He was claiming I was something like Charlie from charlies angels on the playground or something and it degenerated into him calling me a rapist repeatedly. Me flipping out, and pulling his permissions from the board. He was shortly after reinstated by one of the original admins who took shortly after (or before (I'm not sure)) basically parroting everything he said.

After about six months we moved to full PHP software. The full PHP software allowed users to set a founder tag. Mr. Unstable complained to Mr. Sycophant that because of my "instability" clearly I couldn't be trusted with a founder tag. The third member of the new admins was phased out completely from the board by Mr. Unstable. Mr. Unstable became less stable, more erratic and more autocratic over time.

Earlier this year, he removed me from admin all together and went, what is technically known as "fucking bonkers". He decided to paint me as a complete nutjob. Replicating posts from me in the admin board out of context for general consumption. He since gone off on a tangent against one of my only remaining friends there, claiming he was a thief, stealing from his defenseless old grandmother. He changed the board topic (the actual subtitle that pops up along the window header when you open the sight) to insult one of the members with a diagnosed mental disorder. All the while hiding behind is own and claiming none of it was his fault.

If any of you are wondering, that IS the reason I've become so prolific here. I was chased away from my (internet) haunt of nearly 3 years, because of a psychologically unstable ass of monumental proportions.

EDIT: Darzen, I hope this does help you feel better. There are much worse things than being alone.

As for general advice, I'd recommend getting out, getting to lan parties, or something, socialize with friends in person if you can. Usually that can help with this. If you don't have friends where you are for some reason (I moved across country recently, so my friends are almost all on the east coast (and, I'm not)) then get to know people who you can talk to over skype or on the phone. I've found it really does help, usually.

Friends remain about quality, not quantity.

Either way, ignoring people who snipe at you, this is a good place, also there's the IRC channel... it's #escapist at irc.Chatspike.net You'll need an IRC client, but it's a pretty good room all around, if a little hyper.

If you only have one month I assume that you don't have a microphone. Generally speaking, people don't give friend requests to people who don't talk. You need to strike up a conversation people and see if you enjoy each others company before you can know if you'd want to play with that person again.

Mind you though, I've earned friends by decimating, and I mean decimating, the enemy team on TF2. Getting headshots again and again on one person makes them like you, apparently.
