Phew, I just finished watching Angel Beats! and for me it was quite sad. And now that I think about it, I tend to like sad media, be it into books, films, games, etc. So, which is the saddest ending(s) that you have seen?

For me it was from the animes Angel Beats! and Serial Experiments Lain; in books it's Northern Lights and Metro 2003; in games it's Metro 2033, every damn Silent Hill, every damn Fatal Frame and both of the Mafia games; and in movies it's All About Lily Chou-Chou, Requiem for a Dream, Pan's Labyrinth and K-Pax.

In Max Payne 2, most ALL of the supporting cast is mudered by a traitorous mob boss, and the only closure that Max gets is finally accepting his wife's death.
Also, NB4 Longest Journey.

The Departed made me feel bitter at the end, even after Dignam put a bullet through Sullivans skull.

Elfen Lied if you take it as her dead and gone regardless of the tease at the end.

Bridge to Terabithia is another, goddamn, i was not expecting that at all, very powerful.

Toy Story 3

Just... :')

Yes, thats a happy crying face. Toy Story 3 made me cry sad-happy tears.
Nothing else has ever made me do that.

For me the saddest ending I can think of right now is Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. It is the only game that made me tear up. K-Pax also has a sad ending.

Reaper Man. The last quarter or so is rather depressing.

And in games, Iji/Planescape: Torment/Terranigma. All horribly sad.

"Silent hill 2 was pretty sad no matter what the ending, apparently the suicide ending was the real one" :(

I usually try to avoid sad things but there has only been two movies which actually made me tear up. One was the Bridge to Terabithia (not the book because I need a face to attach sadness) and, when I was younger, Lilo and Stitch 2. Both made me cry just a little bit. But like I said, I hate sad endings.

Edit: I almost forgot, Marley and Me made me cry a little. I had my little dog sitting there on my lap licking my hand at the time and well.... it was a little much for me.

The ending of Battlestar when Adama Sr. says goodbye to Roslin sitting at her grave telling her about his life, and when Adama Jr. say's goodbye to Starbuck.

Scrubs Season 8 finale, for me thats when Scrubs really ended and i stopped watching. And im glad i did because i hear nothing but bad things about the new seasons. They ended it in the best way posible and it actually made me cry when i watched JD's memories played back to him.

Afro Samurai. Just because even though it's kinda over, nothing changed, nothing became better and no-one felt any relief/wiser/redeemed.

Gotta say I loved it though.

A BOOK: Breaking Glass. Horribly depressing ending.

A MOVIE: Mary and Max.

A GAME: Shit, I don't know. Super Mario Brothers. He gets nothing for saving her.

Red Dead Redemption was way up there.

Mass Effect 2:
I lost my favorite character and the coolest guy ever in that game, Thane, to a bunch of bees because fucking Jack was too bald and weak and a ***** to hold the barrier open for 3 more seconds
