this is for your most sad deaths in any media form
mine is from the movie Serenity
seriously if you havent seen this movie GO GET IT and see it because it is an amazing movie this will spoil something for you
Wash suddenly from a spike to the chest
its been a while since i connected with a character in a a movie but firefly/serenity did it for me
thats why serenity was heart wrenching in that scene
Such a good movie, especially the choreography of the fights.

I have to get around to watching firefly.

Warning major Clannad spoilers coming up, click cautiously.

Nagisa's death, it was just so well done and emotional. Although that's nothing to Ushio's death. Tomoyo finally got know her, then she comes down with the same illness her mum had. She then begs to be taken outside, which her father agrees to. Shortly afterwards she collapses on the street and dies in his arms. That left me in tears, it was just really unfair.

All I read was the subject and opened it thinking this was an easy one to post - Wash with a spike through his chest... damn you for stealing my first choice right from the start!

Really though, I loved him in the series and the movie, he was just one of those characters you never thought would die for any reason - he was also the comic relief. And earlier they killed Book too before ever finding out why he knew so damn much :(

Ah, so many.

First, in The Stand by Stephen King when

Nick Andross gets killed in the assassination attempt. Made even worse when Tom Cullen comes back :(
and when
Ralph, Glen and Larry get blown up in Las Vegas

The Gaunt's Ghosts novels are killer for making you feel for characters, particularly when the deaths are so damn unexpected. For instance:

when Corbec dies, the heart and soul of the Tanith
and when
Caffran gets shot. Completely out of the blue, from a character that you felt was going to progress into a great character in the series
Curse you Dan Abnett!

And finally, and I know it's really pathetic, but in Futurama

in the episode with Fry's dog, when you see that it spent its whole life waiting for Fry to come back

In the book Fool's Errand, first of a trilogy by Robin Hobb.

Nighteyes! Why! To be with him all this time! You were brothers! More than brothers! You were one! Your death left a hole in Fitz' heart that could never be filled! Oh, why!?!? COME BACK TO MEEEE!*sobbing*

If you know the series, you know what I'm talking about. Damn, that was sad.

Always love it when they kill main characters, the character shield is such a lame plot device.

If I gave it some thought I could probably come up with some good ones but off the top of my head I'll say Max in "Mary + Max".

Grown men do cry over plasticine figures. I wasn't the only one blubbing a bit in the movie theatre either.

I also finished a Grisham book a while ago, "The Chamber" about a death row inmate. Suffice to say it doesn't end well for him but Grisham, the bastard, gave all this hope and the crushing of which was really effective.

Have you ever watched Cowboy Bebop? Sounds like your kind of thing.

the first time Sam dies in Supernatural. That was horrible.

although

Tristan's death at the end of Stardust (Book, not the happy ever after movie) was pretty sad.

Ooh, thought of a good'un - Brendan Fraser's character Ben Sullivan in Scrubs. That episode was done masterfully. Honestly any writers who can actually make it sad when Brendan Fraser dies deserves some kind of award. Could have been down to the well chosen Joshua Radin song too.

This.

It's the only moment I have ever felt sad because of a TV programme.

From the book Something Rotten

Granny Next's death at the end, it's the only death in any piece of media that has made me cry even a little bit...Marley and Me was positively joyous in comparison.

Or else from Full Metal Alchemist

Lt. Col/posthumous General Maes Hughes. Seriously, that was just wrong.
I really hated that because he was always such a nice guy. However, it was his kid's crying that really got me. I will admit one of the reasons I didn't want to watch FMA:Brotherhood was because I didn't want to see Hughes die again.

::MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD! I don't know how to make that spoiler window thingy::

The death of John Marston in Red Dead Redemption. I felt like I missed him, even several days after I'd completed it I'd still feel sorta empty inside.
That was the saddest yet most heroic death I've seen in fiction ever.

::SPOILER END! Don't read what I just wrote above! Trust me, you're gonna be pissed and stuff!::
