Well im still working on the first one but i have finished number two multiple times and after doing this i can say that i love the game and that it is way better than the GTA series. For a few reasons...Saints just has a better flow of story and gameplay, even with the mini-games and stuff on the side Because for a few times the game will almost make you play said activities to earn your way to another mission and while that may be annoying i found the games fun and i got to know the map a little more. Another thing i liked is the checkpoints you get in the missions where if you die you can start there instead of having respawning at the hospital and then going way back to the original mission point. Another thing i liked is that you get rewards through out the game for completing story mission's and the activities ranging from store discounts, extra weapons and vehicles and reduced notoriety points for the police and gangs. I like this series and from what i read there will be a 3rd installment coming so lets hope its good eh?

I also think the two Saint's Row games are better than GTA. At first I was turned off by the mindnumbing gangsta coolness, but once I started I enjoyed driving over old ladies very much. That and the sense of freedom is much more present than in GTA 4.
And it also helps that my SR2 character is pure hotness.

I'll throw my hat into the arena for Saints Row, and it's mostly because Saints Row never tried to stop me from having fun. GTA4 did so very many things right, and all of it was ruined by the fact that I had to maintain relationships with people by doing things that I honestly didn't think were any fun.

Saints Row 2 was the best time I've had playing a sandbox game. It absolutely destroys GTA in my opinion

what got me into the series and got me loving it was this scenario:
in the game im listening to TV riot (you know it when you hear it)drive bying 3 cops then starting an insane car chase with better radio stations better than any music in GTA

I have loved Saints Row since it came out, and I agree with you that it does have a much radio then GTA IV(San Andreas JUST beats it however) The only GOOD song I can think of in IV's Soundtrack is The Seeker, while Saints Row(better soundtrack then the 2nd, in my opinion) introduced me to such bands as The Young Offenders Institute, Motion City Soundtrack, The Aquabats, and The band that sings Television Riot whose name i cannot recall.

The customization feature sets the series apart by itself, and I have yet to find a game that has gotten character customization as well as Saints Row(Looking at you Bethesda). However, I was rather mad at violition for taking the Hair Length Slider out of the sequel.

However, one of my biggest problems with Saints Row and it's sequel is that you must continue causing chaos to have the police keep chasing you. Sometimes I want to sneak around, trying to outsmart the police around me, when i Realize I have no more heat on me. Speaking of Outsmarting the police, the AI isn't all that great either(if you've ever fought or were allies with a character with an RPG, you'll know what i mean.)

Also, The Voice acting in the Saints Row series deserves a gold star. Keith David, Mike Rapaport, AND Michael Clarke Duncan!?

One of the things that i cannot understand is that when the first came out, alotta people complained about the story. Why? It all seemed pretty solid to me( The VK story line shines.)

Woah. my bad for the mini-review, and the sentence structure, i am TIRED.
