Now, most of you can only talk about SR2 because...you probably haven't played 1, let's face it. It's a 360 exclusive, with no PC/PS3 version. It also had none of the hype or fanfare, because it couldn't be marketed as the "anti-GTA4"...as there WAS no GTA4 for people to whine about. I wasn't very excited for Saint's Row 1 as matter-of-fact. I had a pre-order on it only because it came with a demo disc with other bonuses, and it would let me play what's basically a GTA without switching to the PS2, either. This was before I had Live, and I couldn't download demos. And before I had HD, too. So, the PS2 used the same cable slots. And it was before Gamestop's BIG pre-order push, too. This is when you used to pre-order because you were actually concerned a game might run out of copies. Saint's Row's pre-order bonus was a fucking rarity. I'd actually transferred it from a pre-order for Ninety Nine Nights, a move that ended up very wise. I have played N3 since then, and it's a decent Dynasty Warriors clone, but nothing remotely spectacular. Pretty as hell, though.

Labeled a GTA clone, but one of the first ones to REALLY deserve that moniker. Jak 2 wasn't really a GTA clone. I don't remember a heavy platforming focus in GTA, do you? It was also the first one to genuinely challenge GTA. Although it wasn't until the sequel that it would really break out into true success. It also told a story well beyond anything the start of the game hinted at. Each of the gangs actually had compelling narratives, magically. Oh, and it really supported custom soundtracks, via an MP3 player...that let you listen to the in-game radio tunes, (or custom playlists, only minus the guide menu fuss), while walking/driving/murdering people. I'm still pissed that SR2 removed this awesome feature! I'd love to listen the SR2 soundtrack while not it a car! In many ways, I love 1 more than 2. The soundtrack was better, imo. And introduced me to The Aquabats, my second favorite band ever. The phone system was better, with cooler homies and more random street numbers. And the overall plot was better, too. IMO.

TLDR?

What are your thoughts on Saint's Row 1?

It's a pretty good game, I prefer too though as it has motorbikes and co-op.

I played quite a lot of it and thought it was great fun. Really helped fill the gap between GTA SA and IV.

I kinda prefered being a silent protagonist in this one and always kinda resented having SR2's selection of voices.

Yeah, I agree, it did have a better radio selection / soundtrack. For one, the electronic music station actually DID play electronic music (entirely 2 step Drum and Bass though it may have been), instead of "music that occasionally features electronics" as seen in SR2.

I'm sure these are things that mostly I rage about, alone.

Not TL at all Onyx. I never got to playing the first Saints Row because I was still using a PS2 at the time. I really liked playing the second though. I like the idea of a character MP3 player, and would you care to elaborate on the 'homie' system?
You could call a man in a chicken suit with a baseball bat for back-up. THAT IS ALL I NEED TO SAY.

Chicken Ned! Now that you mention it, I did love having that guy backing me up on missions. Nothing quite like watching a guy in a chicken suit running in to the thick of a firefight with a baseball bat in hand. I'm surprised he came out of those unscathed every time.

I played SR1. It's a good game and I liked it, but in the end, I didn't really want to play it after the story was over. I'm glad II did play it though, because SR2 had the same characters as the first one and the same city. SR2 is one of my favourite games.

I remember playing Saint's Row 1, it was one of the first games I bought for my 360 (which I bought with my own hard earned money). It as a really fun game, though pretty similar to the goofier GTA games. Though I really prefer 2. SR2 fixed what was wrong with the first and went even crazier and over the top.

But they still kept the invisible car/game crash glitch...

I loved Saint's row 1. Especially the fact you could break into shops and rob their safes. XD
It was better than GTA4 imo, and alot more fun.
I was a bit dissapointed with 2.

I played it before Saints Row 2 came out, my brother had it from launch. I used to play it with him, and love it. Then I got it myself, and I loved it all over again.

Then I got the sequel. It was a lot better. Following this pattern, Saints Row 3 should - should - probably be my favourite 360 game. Ever.

I am very, very excited for it.

I liked SR1 a lot.

There's some thing in 1 that are better than 2. Such as robbing shops, and the Titan glitch.

that is still one of my favourite games, i played it so much when it came out, especially "Protect Tha Pimp" online with a few friends, it was the best game of it's time, that is until everyone and their grandma started cheating online

i especially liked the customisation system and gang systems online, i will always remember being part of a gang all dressed as santa's
