It's also flat out funnier than GTA4, in a very over the top Robocop meets Stephen Colbert kind of way.
There's some parts of the game that seem to be calling the player out for being a sociopath (or at least relating to a sociopathic character), but I wouldn't credit the writing with being that intentionally subversive.

It's certainly a hoot to interpret it that way, though.
There's a couple of missions where its flat out stated you're playing a complete sociopath. Combine this with the fact that the writing is overall quite good, and I'd guess it was very intentional.

I find it funny how people on these forums call parents stupid for not controlling their kids, then call the kids tools when they do.

/thread.
I find it funny how people resurrect year old threads about buying decisions, acting like the guy is still waiting to buy the game 11 months later, and that he's waiting for that one magic opinion which will allow him to get it.

Chances are he's already bought or played Saint's Row 2 by now, or at least set his sights on newer, even more unsuitable games.

I didn't resurrect it. But my statement is true none the less.

Recently, i went to purchase Saint's row 2 due to yahtzee's recommendation but the store clerk told my mom it was like grand theft auto so she refused to let me buy it. The real problem she has is with sexual content and i was wondering is there really enough sexual/objectional content to prevent me from buying it?
I don't know if you can convince her, the game is very funny and wacky, but if your mothers final decision if no, then be thankful she is taking an interest in what your getting up to. But it deffinatly isn't like GTA in the sense that it is gritty violence but the sandbox style is similar.

Those people calling him a tool, nice job...he's 14 and asking for info about a game, bet you guys must feel real tough after slamming him over the net. Either way good luck!

I'm just debating degrees of subversion, the message is definitely there.

I don't know if it will work, but tell your mom she's an idiot. She doesn't know a thing about video games and it is because of that she wont buy it. She's scared of what will happen you, but she is being irrational.
