This doesn't surprise me. I was reading a Q&A with Steve Jaros, the lead writer for Saints Row, and the general impression I got from his answers implied that THQ was what caused a lot of the things that older SR fans didn't like about the third. Originally, the story was going to be much darker, Shaundi would've had an actual character arc instead of just being really bitchy the entire story, and Johnny was going to have a better death.
Perhaps this is why I'm getting the feeling the next saints row is going to go all "Saints Row 3 and 4 were ALL in a dream! Back to REAL Saints Row... in the next one."

Now we just need to murder all the rest of the restrictive puke stain Publishers and gaming to get back to games, rather then anti gamer hubris.

The guys from the SR2 and SR3 (that were kind of pissed off with the lacking features of SR3) got to try SR4 and while they still mourn the lack of some features they were very impressed by it and story wise considered it a lot more closer (or at least related) to SR2.

In Elderscrolls 4:Oblivion" there is this mod with which you can have a one handed blunt weapon that's basically a dildo.
Looks like Volition wanted to save the modders some work :p

I doubt the Saints Tow games will be *as* moddable as the Bethesda games where you have some huge mods, some of which will take longer to play through then one of the gang storylines in Saints row 1 or 2.

Would be funny though, maybe a big quest mod where you rebuild the zombie island in SR3. You do quests to gather workers and resources but before that, you must defeat the zombie boss.

Maybe something smaller at first, like lowering the drawbridges again. Some new vehicles and more customization options for them. Customization options for all the vehicles, including planes.

Well fuck me. Support for previous titles? Maybe modders will fix Saints Row 2. You know, the best one in the series.

They still have consoles to do that on. Don't worry, Voliton won't suddenly pull a 180 and actually put meaningful work into their monetisation plans.
Maybe I'm just too loyal to Volition because they brought us FreeSpace, but I think that kind of DLC monetization stuff was the publisher's responsibility.

Maybe they can add enough content to make the story last THREE hours.
Do you honestly expect modders to make two and a half hour of content?

OT: I honestly wish to care about this, but Saints Row The Third just left a solid after taste of apathy in my mouth making my brain drift every time I even hear the name mentioned in a conversation. Hopefully this will change my mind, but there was just too much I didn't like about the core game. The sad thing is that I suspect I will get Saints Row IV despite of this. I fear I will dislike that too and hate myself for buying it. Let's just hope there will be any decent mods for it.

And dumb decisions like that are probably what contributed to THQ's downfall.

This is great news. When will more learn how much extra life good modding support brings to games..

Well, IdolNinja's Gentlemen of the Row mod has a couple of little tweaks, but I'm guessing either him or people in his team will put even more good work into it (hell, I'm tempted to look around and see what I can do)

This is absolutely excellent news, there are some types of games that become worth so much more with a vibrant modding community and Saints Row is a perfect fit for that kind of thing

About damn time!
I mean really, modding is the heart of most pc games. I don't understand why (Other than spending more money) most companys don't release SDK's for their games. It would keep most alive and playing for a looong time :/

My question is how far are they willing to go and how soon will these modders be in jail as tbh its already a dangerously rude game(which I love might i add) and the masses on the internet can only make it worse and legally speaking its gonig to get dark from here on out :p but hey some of it'll be fun and mostly ok... i hope :)

This is great news. I've been a part of a couple of modding communities over the years and have made a handful of contributions, mostly Skyrim. The ability to mod a game is incredible. I miss BioWare giving us toolsets for their games, (another thing I chalk up to EA).

As well as adding new content, keeping the game fresh, interesting and increasing its lifespan, I also love the ability to re-write the rules. I often tweak things in one mod collecting all such changes together, to improve QoL in-game, such as by increasing run speed and jump height, weapon properties, skill advancement speeds and so on. One of my favourite Skyrim mods is a werewolf mod that removes the annoying restrictions and limitations to shapeshifting. No time limit, no transformation limits, puts your gear back on after reverting form and makes werewolf scale alongside warriors, archers and mages.

This is a great move and if it took THQ dying to bring about this positive change, then hoorah. Now someone needs to kill EA and Activision and we'll be sorted. :)

Nice work Volition.

Given their attitude towards used games and the like, I seriously doubt that it was solely a publisher issue.

I mean, if you want to believe the best, go for it. I just can't.

XD! Touché.

But, I mean, they HAVE to care more about the game than Volition did, right?

There wasn't enough to the core game for me to form any negative opinion except "too short."

I'm personally skipping 4, and I hope sales decline so maybe we get something less content-free next time.
