It saddens me that this will sell by the ton. But then the lowest common denominator is unfortunately the most widespread audience.
Truly enough said.

Also, I quit drinking, so It's going to be impossible for SR2 to be better than GTA3 unless someone seduces me with the right kind of rum.

I quit playing Saints' Row when I saw a place called Freckle *****'s. Seriously, you couldn't find something else besides that ignorant, border-line racist joke?

Border line racist? its taking the piss out of a well know american brand.

I would put SR above GTA4 but I still think GTA:SA is the best of the lot.

I hope that SR2 is as technically good as GTA4 but with the bit rockstar forgot, the fun.

The whole reason I play these games is the over the top carton violoence the realy bad jokes, they are meant to be fun, not a case of controling some miserable anti war slavic killer. Who has to be one of the most contrived unlikable characters I've played.

Oh and dont get me started on the needy socially deprived friends.

Hey did you know they added the freinds portion of the game because it didn't need a lot of work put into it? Yeah they did and it adds a arbitrary number of hours doing shit with them.

I liked Tommy Versetti. He was the kind of psychopath that a guy like me can relate to.

Im sorry, was that sarcasim? Its so hard to tell in the written word.

But to be honest I would rather they had put the extra time they spent on the friends system in to making the game more fun. If i want my gang violence gritty and realistic I'll take a walk round some bad neighbourhoods.

Niko is just plain annoying, from what I can make out he is a vertan of war who is effected by the killing and thinks war is bad, but with in 2 seconds of you saying they held the door for some punk and they didnt thank you he'll offer to "take care of it" for you.

Shit I preferd the mute from GTA3.

In terms of style and gameplay, Saints Row definitely is the new GTA. IV dropped almost everything San Andreas had going for it and started again with a new 'gritty' and 'realistic' image, which has ruined all the fun and wonder that San Andreas inspired in me. Saints Row 2 looks set to take San Andreas' colourful image and take it a step furthur, so IV and SR are now at opposite ends of the market.
Personally I'm a gamer who prefers good old fashioned fun over annoying, whiny characters and pretentious and ultimately futile attempts at 'realism', therefore I'm going to pay for Saints Row by selling IV.

that opening trailer i have to admit did look pretty awesome. I did like the original saints row... but the whole gangsta' feel about it is a bit sad, at least have some decent dress sense instead of wearing baggy jeans that go down lower than your ARSE!

I will probably buy it though...

the thing with saints row is theres always much more to do, on GTA you have limeted things.

For me it was the wacky and most times twisted sense of humor that made the GTA series one of my favorites. With the release of GTA IV and its gritty realism, I must say I was disappointed and am now looking forward to SR2.

Now I don't keep up with most of the game world news, but my hopes for the future is that GTA is starting a type of trend for their game releases. A base for game mechanics(GTA 3 and now 4)and then building upon those with installments like VC and SA.

No way. The only reason the first Saint's Row (A three-or-so year old game.) got instantly popular is that Grand Theft Auto 4 wasn't out yet, but the fans needed something like it to sate their appetites. Some played the old GTA's, others turned to Saint's Row.

Dosnt mean that SR isnt more fun than GTA4 though, just that people found it in a round about way.

Some people may think it's more fun. I'm not disputing that. I'm saying Saint's Row will never replace Grand Theft Auto because Grand Theft Auto is the reason Saint's Row got popular.

I wouldn't say the "NEW" GTA, more like the "NEXT" GTA.
He speaks the truth, it is impossible to be the "new" GTA, as GTA basically invented that type of game.

Still buying GTAIV for PC, I've played it on 360 and it is gritty and has a nice sense of "mean" to it as well as a wonderfully depicted city full of surly fucks.

I never played Saints Row, but will be getting the sequel for the reason of Monster Trucks and senseless violence that holds more to the older GTA's

Also on the Monster Trucks note, will be getting Mercenaries 2 PC.

Would have no issues with GTA following it's new path. A little more serious doesn't make it any less fun to hit a mailbox and send it hurtling into a pedestrians crotch.
