I still didnt played SR3 but from what I watched I can understand where these complaints are coming from.

My largest complaint lies within the completely incongruent story line that seems about as well put together as a wet paper statue with q-tips.
Again, not much I can say since I didn't notice much difference in the story quality or character interaction. Actually, I was enjoying the characters more in SR3. The part where you and Pierce are singing along to the radio is a good example. Plus they all seem to interact more rather than sticking to their own respective missions, which they did for most of the time in SR2.

Obviously I'm not interpreting something the same way you are. SR3's story seems pretty much in line with the Saints Row style. I'm not seeing any real differences, so.... not much I can say.

I agree on the story portion... I was super super super pissed about what they did with Gat. I also agree with the cutscene issue. It just feels... off. Now the other stuff I'm fine with because the Game itself is freaking awesome. It's just that the storyline could have used some explaining.

They're probably taking a page from Lucasarts book and releasing major parts of the sgtory as "DLC"

I thought it wwas suspicious that saints row was day-one advertised with an dlc discount card.

I really wish i'd just gotten my money back when I found out about the online passes
I almost did just that upon seeing the online pass in my game. It's usually a bad sign that they need to combat used sales with something so..benign.../sigh
it isn't benign. it is a major problem with the direction of the industry. your complacency tells me you have no capacity for forethought, else you would realize that, while not a big deal in themselves, the online pass line of thinking for business will cripple us, the players, in the long run
You're quite right, I'd used the wrong word to describe them, my apologies. I meant to say something more along the lines that it's crippling the game industry and I can't really delve into it any better then Jim has already stated, it's like a parking ticket for infinite time, you can sell that parking ticket to anyone for any price, it's not duplicating the physical copy or slot on the servers, just exchanging hands, that's why I'm against them, again, apologies for misusing a word =X

Was the story as good as I'd hoped? No.

Was it as good as I expected? Probably, yes.

Did I absolutely grin from ear to ear the entire time. YES.

The more I play it, the more I guess I'm okay with the smaller map.

I guess it's nice that your next objective is never going to be ridiculously far away, and if you want to go to a particular store, you don't have to drive for days.

But I'm also seeing more examples of how everything in this game is "less". I did my first few activities today (insurance fraud and trafficking), and they don't give you any sort of setup at all. In SR2, you usually got a little scene, a little character interaction, before a particular activity, which I liked. It wasn't necessary, but it added to the character. In SR3, nothing. You just get right into the activity, and it just feels half-assed.

I haven't gotten sick of shopping for clothes (yet), but I have stopped going to the plastic surgeon to change my body type every ten minutes like I did in SR2, so that's a bummer.

Yeah, that was one of the design issues in SR2 - a big city is great and all, but what's the point if you never end up in that area again after an activity? Why have it there? Plus due to hardware limitations you can only have so many NPCs and vehicles on the screen, making the city feel empty with how sparse the crowds are. SR3 feels more dense and lively.

Did anyone else notice this? Second mission in, appears for a few seconds.

There's nothing like shooting the National Guard standing on a My Little Pony reference while "You're the Best Around" plays in the background.
I thought that first until it reminded me of Mr. Toots from Red Faction: Armageddon (or something like that), he was a weapon. X_X

Maybe both.

OP:
THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, just a warning. :D
I love this game, I like the story (as usual), the weapons and the wackiness.

But in some parts of the story I feel cheapen out, and it seems much more shorter, less explained and kinda worse.

And no replays of the missions or movies. WTF
And I also saw the less customization and that kind of annoyed me.

When I completed the game, I looked at it and said to myself, "This is either more for the Saints Row newbies or a testing ground for their next game that is going to be on a San Andreas scale" hopefully I am right and that Saints Row 4 will happen and have a better story.

I thought the action was actually more punishing than in SR2, at least until you've gotten a few upgrades.

Still, it's already been anounced that their WILL BE a Saints Row 4, so maybe your wish will come true.

I miss mission replays and taxis and the notoriety cheats only work if I'm out of the range of every police or gang NPC, depending on cheat. That's it. Those are my only complaints. And dude, they are small compared to the sheer nuttyness of the things I can do. I have a gun that lets me RC control any car that I want in a small area so I can get away with running over pedestrians and I can also self destruct the car. I also use air strikes on my enemies and fly around in a VTOL jet that easily switches from hover to flight mode. Last night I did a mission in which I blasted computer security protocols in what I can only describe as a combined world of warcraft and tron reference mission. Since I pre ordered, I have a truck with a cannon on the back that fires humans. Today I blew up a bunch of military stuff, murdered a ton of zombies, competed in a pro wrestling match, saved a monument, and then played through an 80s mars space movie reference mission.

How can I possibly hate any game that lets me do all of that? I think your problem was that you tried to take it seriously, when it's obviously not meant to be taken as such. Yes, there's stuff I miss, but I'm not going to let that get to me because the rest of the game is awesome on a compact disc. Truly it is one of the funnest games I've played in a while.

Mission replay is the only thing I miss. The game is great, there are some moments (Gat at the start, Oleg leaping onto a STAG VTOL, driving a tiger) that make me laugh with joy.
