Yes, you heard that correctly. No, I haven't been drooling over my iPod. That would be weird. No, I simply saw this on a website just now when looking up iPod problems. See, just after Christmas I went out and bought my first ever iPod, the brand new 4th generation iPod Touch. Now, it's been working fine since I bought it, music and videos play okay, Youtube, apps, everything, it all works fine. Except Safari. I want to use my iPod to browse the internet, but whenever I go on Safari the webpages are all dimmed and dark, and don't respond to anything I do.

I tried searching the internet (on my laptop) for a solution, and ended up being linked by Google to Yahoo Answers. The answer they gave didn't help, but as I scrolled down the page I saw a link to other pages with answers to iPod problems. The one that hit me first was this:

"How can I get saliva out of my iPod touch?"

As it turns out the reason for this is a bit more mundane. Rather than any sort of perverted sexual fantasy, someone simply left their iPod around while their one-year-old kid was playing, and apparently babies and iPods do not mix well. Didn't stop me laughing, though.

So you're probably asking yourself "what's the point of this thread?". Well, I'll tell you what the point is. ITT I want people to discuss things they've seen, both online and off, that have made them stop and think "what the hell?", or do a double take, or were just generally bizarre. Even better if the real reason behind the oddity is something more normal and sane.

Oh, and if anyone has a solution to my iPod problem with Safari, then please let me know :D. Ironically, I'm typing this on Safari now, as that's the browser I usually use when on my laptop...

UPDATE: No problems anymore, I just turned it off then back on again and Safari works fine now :D.

Take your brand-new iPod back, if you want to use it for web-browsing. There's only one really decent way to search the web, and that's via a real, decent computer.

As for the discussion topic... well, on this very site in fact, I saw and commented on a story about a woman who'd hit a cop with a dildo and proceeded to claim that it was self-defense.
I'm not only going to use it for web-browsing, there are plenty of useful apps that I want to get, and I listen to music on it too when I'm out cycling and whatnot. I just figured that since I can use it to browse the web, like when I'm in town and at a Wifi hotspot, then I may as well do so. The feature's there, after all, I might as well use it...

Is your IPod touch connected to wireless. Are you paying for a 3g or 4g network? I know these might be obvious, but you never know.

I don't know anything about paying for a network, I'm trying to connect it to Safari via my house wifi, which it is connected to (I can download apps and use Youtube perfectly fine). So it's definitely connected to wireless.

I can see web pages fine, they simply look really dim and dark, and I can't tap (click) on anything in them.

I read a story on the Escapist recently saying that Clint Eastwood is directing a musical starring Beyonce. I'm... still not sure how I feel about that.

Have you tried restoring it while plugged into your computer?
No, but I might do that later if there isn't another option. I just don't want to end up deleting all my music and apps to restore it, in case that doesn't work, and either way I'll have to completely resync my iPod again which would be a drain on my time... :(. Ah well, if nothing else works I'll give it a shot...

When you sync it to your computer, it should create a backup of everything you have. After you restore your ipod touch, you'll just have to reinstall everything. I know it's a *****, but if you've tried everything, this is most likely needed to be done. Got this for you:

1)Back up your iPod Touch's data to your computer before the restore to prevent losing data. You'll need to reinstall it after the restore process.
2)Connect to the Internet and install the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website.
3)Make sure your iPod Touch is connected to your computer.
4)Pick "iPod Touch" in the Source pane of the iTunes program.
5)Click on the Summary tab.
6)Choose "Check for Update."
7)Select "Restore" and follow the instructions to finish restoring your iPod Touch.

It's okay, it's working now, but thank you anyway for the advice, I'll make a note of it in case anything else goes wrong :).
