Samurai Jack Creator Returns With Giant Robots

The man behind some of Cartoon Network's biggest hits is back, this time with a show about big robots, teenaged aliens, and high school cafeteria food.

Genndy Tartakovsky is a legend when it comes to animated TV shows. As either one of or the driving force behind shows like <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Dexters-Laboratory-Season-Christine-Cavanaugh/dp/B003UN2IFY/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1284700776&sr=1-1>Dexter's Laboratory, <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Powerpuff-Girls-Complete-Anniversary-Collection/dp/B001GU04Y0/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1284700644&sr=1-1>The Powerpuff Girls, and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Samurai-Jack-Season-Phil-LaMarr/dp/B0001HAI0E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1284700518&sr=8-1>Samurai Jack (not to mention the superlative <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Clone-Vol-Microseries/dp/B0006Z2LMO/ref=sr_1_6?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1284700809&sr=1-6>Star Wars: Clone Wars miniseries), it's a reputation that's certainly well-deserved. Now, Tartakovsky is returning to Cartoon Network with a new show that seems to have a little bit of everything: an epic space opera storyline, a sarcastic look at American high schools, and giant robots beating the snot out of each other.

Sym-Bionic Titan tells the story of two royal teenagers and a (normal-sized) robot who cross the cosmos to escape the general who's conquered their homeworld. The group lands here on Earth and does their best to create new lives for themselves, part of which includes going to high school and dealing with the everyday horrors of cafeteria food and teenage cliques. Of course, they also happen to have robotic armor that can combine (a lá Voltron) to form a giant mecha capable of fending off even the nastiest threat the general can send their way.

Judging by the trailer, this looks like it's going to be a blast. Tartakovsky's clean style is still here, the fight scenes look great, and the high school parts seem like they could be genuinely funny.

Star Wars: Clone Wars is, in my opinion, one of the few good things to come about from the New Star Wars Trilogy. Because of that and Samurai Jack, I'm willing to check out anything that Tartakovsky's been involved with. The first episode of Sym-Bionic Titan airs tonight at 8 PM on Cartoon Network.

Genndy Tartakovsky can do no wrong! I've like every single one of his shows thus far.

Gives me a reason to watch CN again. Too much live-action reality garbage on atm.

Was I the only one, upon spotting "Giant Robots", to scream out "MEGAS!!!"?

While not Megas awesome (I really wanted megas...) I suppose it's better than the other cartoons that's coming out nowadays.

Hmmm... it looks like the child of an Anime and a terrible "teen life" cartoon.

On the other hand, it is by the guy who brought us the glory of Samurai Jack.

Ah, brings back memories of the good old days of Cartoon Network. Powerpuff girls, Dexter, our dear old friend the samurai.

Yes, I believe I shall give it a try, for old times sake.

Saw this promo'd on Adult Swim.

Good god this looks great. Normally I'd brush it off as another silly thing on Cartoon Network, but when the guy behind Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack gets behind it, you have my attention. I may actually watch Cartoon Network for more than just Adult Swim and Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy and Courage the Cowardly dog reruns.

I got to agree, but I'll give anything made by Genndy Tartakovsky a chance.

I'd watch it on Hulu when I could. I'm still waiting to buy the Venture Bros. Season 4 on DVD and Darker than Black Season 2.

When I read the title I got EXTREMELY excited.
Samurai Jack-like action + Giant Robots(chicks dig them :p) + Good art style + Humour + Genndy Tartakovsky= EPIC WIN
Then I saw the trailer, paused it, and went:"Fuck it's just has too much content"(this is quite weird, considering it's coming from me, a guy who never complains about too much content).
The thing that got me thinking so was the fact that the protagonist transforms into a robot, using a watch(the Ben 10 reference just short circuit my brain). Don't get me wrong, Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, Megas XLR and Ben 10(the original series) are and were my favorite cartoons ever, but the fact that this new cartoon seems to be taking all the best parts form them just makes me a little nervous.
I mean the idea is cool, Genndy Tartakovsky is great, the trailer is good, but I fear that it's somewhat hard to combine all those elements together nicely.
High school drama/comedy, giant robots, samurai fighting, teen hero, are all good stand alone ideas but when they all come together... the show might be rather too chaotic or not be just with all of it's components...

The bottom line is: trailer looks great, I have faith in Tartakovsky, I really really hope this thing's great, making this show value its 100% full potential will be like the hardest thing ever imagined.
Anyway I doubt that the show will be bad, so I'm really excited.

here a question did samurai jack ever have an ending? i remember when i used to watch it on tv that it got to a stagnating point where jack would beat haku every time but then i never saw an ending.... that one episode with the guardian of the power source showed a possible ending but it never referred to it ever again =/
