I still do not, to this day, understand how anyone had a problem with San Andreas. Seriously. The sheer scale of the entire game blew me away! I thought it was a fantastic end to the GTA series on that generation of console, as it pushed the bar on story telling, entertaining, and gameplay! The only bugbear I had were the graphics, but the game made up for it!

I really wanna know, however, why some of us don't like it...?

Holy crap this reminds me, I never actually beat San Andreas, I just put in the flying car cheat and ate shit every time I played.

-Worst gameplay in any GTA game to date
-poorly executed leveling system (really why bother at all)
-Large map, however it was relatively emtpy
-50cent gangsta feel=lame
-not nearly as funny as other games in the series
-boring location (even more so than liberty city, Vice city and london were cool, as were the original, the origianal two grand theft autos managed to keep the same cities interesting.
-visuals were all round boring, Vice city had much more exciting visuals.
-overal pretentious feel, the whole game felt like it was being aimed at 12 year old eminem fans.

I had a really easy time hating it.

I liked it. But CJs character was way too bi-polar for me.

I can sympathize hes lost his mother, his brothers in prison and his been betrayed...WTF? is he cementing an occupied portapotty into the ground because some construction workers heckled his sister? What the hell?" That was the part that lost me.

"Oh no, I just killed my old friend big smoke, this is so sad. Wait officer tenpenny, IM GONNA KILL YOU!"

That was the part that lost me. Every main character seems to have a mental disorder in GTA
Tommy = psychotic
CJ = bi-polar
Nico = depression

Some reasons I understand... but, no it wasn't being aimed at Eminem fans or anything like that.. and even if so, I think you have the meaning of pretentious down wrong. It wasn't even a 50 Cent thing... more of a well, feel of that period... and the movies that were around at the time. I REALLY disagree on the empty map thing too, say that about other big sandbox games (I am looking at you Just Cause) but San Andreas was PACKED with shit.
Pretentious means trying too hard and coming across false
pretentious

3. making an exaggerated outward show; ostentatious.
No, I'm fairly sure I used it correctly and it was/is the best word to fit the point I was making. It was too much a "gangsta" game, not organized crime. I was sick of that theme before it came about, I don't want to play a game with a posse or any of that bullshit. I felt it was aimed at the same 12 year old kids who wander round wearing WU-TANG playing 50cent and Eminem out of their phones. It was about the big drug dealer coming back home and taking back his turf...yeah whatever, he's a hero.
I felt that the gameworld while big, had too much open space. There was a whole lot of nothing out there, sure there was a lot of content but crashing you're plane in the middle of the desert is not fucking fun.

And I don't see the point about gameplay when it was.. pretty much like the other 3D ones. And you've FOR SURE never played the GBC/GBA games then either.
Not sandbox games, no, they looked shallow to begin with so I didn't bother. The gameplay was not like the other 3d GTAs though, there was the whole "hold the aim button, move painfully slowly and aim" thing going for it, just didn't like it. All the new features they put in felt sluggish, you're welcome to disagree with me, but as I said, I found it very easy to hate.

Meh, it was alright. Probably the worst in the series, but I'm not a fan of the series anyways, so my opinion is likely irrelevant.

I love this game. It's a blast to go back and play it on the PC with the mod that removes fog from the game. You can see all the way from one city to the other while you're up in a plane - kind of ruins the distance effect, but it is awesome to see!

Yes, it was.

I don't see how anyone can't like it, you can play it exactly the same as all the other ones, but there's more things to do in it.

It was pretty fun, but it wasn't all good.

The RPG-like leveling system kind of sucked.

The map was incredibly large, which really sucked on certain missions where you had to, say, drive a car of stolen goods from one city to another without destroying it, or you'll have to restart the mission again. There goes another hour of you life.

Woah!

It just got silly.. I mean I know its a game and not real but yeah, one day he is a gansta with no money, a week later he owns an airfield.

San Andreas was good, but then it started hanging out with all the wrong geological formations, after awhile it was doing shakedowns, and now it's completely broken up under the surface. Now, it's completely at Fault [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Andreas_Fault].

it was awesome but, not meaning to be racist, the protagonist was a 'gang banger' and it just wasn't as appealing to me, personally, as I grew up exposed more to things like vice city and GTA 3 story-lines than to gang members fighting for cred in the streets of some lame american city.

Maybe it appealed to a wider range of people, but it just didn't quite do it for me, personally.
I appreciate your honesty. A lot of people I have spoken to just can't word it like that!! Haha! I promise it's fun to listen to.
