Sand box games

Garrysmod, without a doubt.
Name one other game in which you can make a house out of bathtubs, tie watermelons to the sides, weld rocket engines to the bottom, fill it with live Cyberdemons and fly it into space, all while playing as Isaac Clarke (my current player model)
Nothing really cures boredom like making a dishwasher that shoots lasers everywhere while floating.

My favorite game that is a Sandbox is Assassins Creed 2, although as a Sandbox I prefer minecraft...if that makes sense.

Hi everyone, just a sudden thought that popped into my head...what is your favourite sand box game and why?
Mine is definitely saints row 2 just because of the over the top game play, fun side missions and also the fact that you got to spray s**t all over rich people houses...kinda added to the entertainment value ^.^

I'd love to say that it's an MMO I play but, alas, there are no good MMO sandbox games out there right now. (And no, I don't think EVE Online is a fun game. That's besides the point.)

Right now I have my eye on Xsyon - and when I say I have my eye on it, I mean I have my eye on it because right now it doesn't seem to be anywhere near a finished game that warrants a monthly subscription fee.

My favorite sandbox game has and will always be Red Dead Redemption. The environment is so beautiful and there are so many things to do.

Well Minecraft is up there, but I like to think of it as a different genre outside of sandbox, in thar there's no story and you just build shit. It's more like Lego Land than a sandbox.
A triple A sandbox game has to be either Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherhood, or inFamous.

It's not for everyone I'll admiot.
But I will also say that a big factor in people not liking it is them treating it like WoW (even without knowing it). If you do that you'll have no fun, because EVE is NOT like WoW, at all.

On topic, Garry's mod is the best sandbox game because it really is a true sandbox game.

Just Cause 2.
I'm not entirely sure why, but it was just really fun to play around in.
Probably because the art style was so great - really lush scenery and extremely far rendering distance.

For me, it's a tie between GTA IV and Just Cause 2.

GTA for the diversity and size and style and huge multiplayer freeroam. Just Cause 2 because IT IS FUCKING AWESOMESAUCE LACED WITH MOAR EXPLOSIVE AWESOME.

If they were ever combined, I could die a happy man.

Red Dead Redemption has the best story out of any of them though.

Infamous is a close second, but it's tied, between Saint's row 2 and Just Cause 2. Saint's row city is fun, plus the crazy missions are insanely entertaining. Just Cause 2's epicness makes it a joy to run it, fuck shit up, then leave as the smoke begins to fade and there's piles of dead bodies behind your new temporary army jeep that will flying off a cliff in about a minute
