Now, what are the most satisfying experiences in gaming to you? They don't have to be difficult, just things that make you sit back with a good feeling.

For me, it's throwing a pipe bomb while being swarmed in L4D. Watching the explosion just makes me feel good.

A close second it attacking a raider camp with a Stealth Boy and a Silenced 10 mm in Fallout 3.

In L4D, when I downed a tank while being slowly killed by a horde of zeds because a boomer decided to puke on me.

Wait, that gave you a good feeling?...Whatever, to each their own.

Wait, that gave you a good feeling?...Whatever, to each their own.

It saved the rest of my team and got me an achievement...nothing more satisfying than that.

Being a achievement whore is satisfying? People are strange.

I'm guessing Tank Slayer, or whatever the the achievement you get for killing a tank by yourself....maybe EDIT: He posted it while I was posting mine. I was worng. I apologize.

ON TOPIC: Really I love getting headshots. Either in Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, whatever. I am not the best FPS player by any stretch of the imagination, so whenever I actually do well it makes me feel nice. Also I find great satisfaction going through Rock Band 2 on Expert and not instantly failing. It's the simple things.

Solving a complex puzzle in an adventure game without help.

Killing a boss that makes your hand cramp up.

Being not only allowed but *required* to kill Maiev over and over again in The Frozen Throne.

Managing to use almost exclusively stealth in a stealth game.

Playing something that's actually scary.

Sex.

Using a bullet-time mod for Left 4 Dead, I jumped into a horde of zombies from the second story of a building with two pistols blazing, all in slow motion. Take this, ye cursed undead! Pew pew pew!

Sounds fun. Too bad I've got the 360 version.

-In Left 4 Dead, it's getting into the escape vehicle, only to leave it to charge through a horde to rescue an incapacitated survivor, and then all of us getting out alive. It's only happened a couple times so far, but it's quite satisfying; there's a real sense of sacrifice and camaraderie in that game.

-In Rome: Total War, it's triumphing against overwhelming odds, using strategy and an inextinguishable spirit (forgive my excessive flourish). It gives me quite a rush to reap the rewards of not giving and staying focused the whole way through, which is something I feel a lot of gamers have forgotten these days. My most notable instance was playing as the Huns against the Romans, with cavalry against a majority of footmen. I'll never forget how hard it was to win that one.

-In Mass Effect, it would be seeing Wrex lift enemies into the air with his biotics, and then Garrus using his high-powered sniper rifle to blast them sky high. It's both exciting and mildly comical in a Road Runner-esque way. Of course, what's great about Mass Effect is that the whole experience is wonderful.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: Making my way around the couple ready to ambush me from the shadows, neck punching one into unconsciousness, taking the launch codes off the server and then planting the charge making my way back to the other guy and then detonating the charge.

Palm to the side of his face as he's turning towards the explosion. Two more breach the door straight ahead. Sticky shocked them both before they even knew what was up.

Enemies: Four
Casualties: Zero
Alarms raised: Zero

All on my first try. I felt pretty badass.

I always found stealthy assassinations in Assassin's Creed very satisfying, but even more so were those occurrences when a rooftop guard spotted me and I was able to take him out with a running knife kill while he's still shouting about how "I'm not allowed to be up here."

Also, in NBA Street, those times when you make a cross-court, hail-Mary throw to score a few necessary points and actually manage to sink the basket. Almost never happens, unless your three-point stat is nearly perfect, but when it does, it's happy land.

Lastly, the assassination missions in Grand Theft Auto 4 where the targets are clearly marked and standing in a dense mob so they can easily be taken out with a well placed rocket or grenade. As fun as those intense firefights can be, there's something heartwarming about getting them all in one shot.

Left 4 Dead, Dead Air Pistol-only Expert run. We weren't doing to well on the construction site level, and about the time we reached the barricade we were half-dead with no medkits. So I say "Screw it." I shoot the gass cans near the barricade, and stand at the front of the group while the hoard rushes in. And instead of just shooting, I dive head-first into the hoard, meleeing and screaming into the mic:

"I AM SIR BARTHOLOMEW STILTON! I AM SIR BARTHOLOMEW STILTON! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?"

And with that, I defeated the hoard singlehandedly with minimal damage. Singlehandedly because everyone else was too awestruck/busy laughing their asses off to help.

So we keep going as planned, until a tank arrives. the general sentiment around the party was "Great, we're screwed."

I walk up to the front of the group, and ask the tank, "Do you know who I am?"

The tank charges. I dodge to the side and start to melee it, screaming:

"I AM SIR BARTHOLOMEW STILTON! I AM SIR BARTHOLOMEW STILTON! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?"

"I! AM! SIR! BARTHOLOMEW! STILTOOOON!"

And with the help of two of my friends (one died), we killed the tank. We killed it with two pistols and a pair of fists.

And so we keep going, and we're almost to the safe house. All of the sudden, we hear crying. I spot the witch some ways away.

"Witch!" Everyone murmurs. "Lights off!"

I turned my light off.

Then I turned it back on.

"Do you know who I am?"

The witch stands and starts to growl at me.

"I AM SIR BARTHOLOME-OH SHIT!"

And that marked the death of Sir Bartholomew Stilton.

-----

Also, my hunter-esque ways in any real-life gunplay sport (paintball, airsoft, laser tag, etc.). My old nickname wasn't Panther for no reason.

-----

Also, extended periods of solitude in the woods, where I can sit and think. I get a renewed perspective on things every time I do that.

I believe so. It was the end of the final mission.

Yeah, that's the part I mean. I messed up my first try, did it flawlessly the second.

A few come to mind.. Good times.

The first that came to mind was way back when Half-Life was new. I was running around with the Tau Cannon (that charging laser gun) I was just wandering around charged it up and fired it aimlessly at a nearby wall. To my surprise, I killed some guy on the other side who I had NO idea was there. Then later in that same game, I took a charged shot at some guy and killed him,the shot bounced off the wall behind him and went into another room and killed TWO more players. I was laughing so hard at the odds of that I was crying. And then of course I was accused of cheating and such. But I explained that it was just insane luck. Even if I could see them through the walls with a wallhack the odds of me lining up a shot that killed them all would be even more unlikely. They agreed and we all had a good laugh.

The next and somewhat similar occasion was when America's Army was new. I was playing on Pipeline and tossed a blind grenade through a door and ended up taking out 6 guys at once. The chat just spammed with WTF LOL and OMG and such.

And last and probably the most satisfying was years ago when I was playing Killer Instinct in an Arcade at the Cincinatti Mall while traveling through. I was playing solo as Fulgore against he AI with my brother watching, and some guy with his buddies comes up and starts watching. After a few rounds he puts in his money and joins it and like a cocky mofo claims he's going to destroy me and I won't even touch him, chuckling to his buddies. They are like yeah, do it man! I was surprised as I've never had anyone do that before and I was like "OK." My bro smirks at me knowing I'm really good. So he picks Orchid and we fight on her level, on the rooftop. We had a unusual fight, that was very defensive as we both dodged each other's attacks like crazy and just avoided each other for the longest time. Then suddenly I just exploded and relentless attacked him and destroyed him in record time without losing any health at all and did something I had never done before, and never done since, and in fact never knew how to do, and ended the fight with an shadow ultra combo, and as he fell down I juggled him off the edge of the building with my triple lightning bolts. As he fell to his death, I just stepped away from the controls grinned and said "See ya." And I hear the announcer yell "PERFECT!" as I turn and walk away my bro laughing along. I could do the Ultra Combo finisher easily but only rarely did I see anyone do the shadow combos. I was such an enjoyable gratifying experience to school the hell out of this guy who was being such a cocky arrogant jerk.

Playing the original Devil May Cry for the first time
Playing Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox for the first time
Getting ridiculously good with Yoshimitsu in Tekken, which led to me being almost as good as my brother who at the time had been a Tekken player for longer than I remembered my own life.
The last three hours of Mass Effect
Performing my first Obliteration in Ninja Gaiden II
Kicking Gill's ass on Street Fighter III with Ryu on max difficulty, keeping two-thirds of my life bar after draining two of his (he came back to life)
