Right... and yet for all the talk of serving a higher ideal, that's what Nintendo does. Video games. And hardly anything else. Which is fine, but saying you're just carrying out the will of fun is a bit pretentious.
3 Platformers, 2 Action, 1 RTS, 1 FPS, and 1 Mini-Game Collection out right now and 2 Action, 1 Horror, 1 Racing, and 2 (I forgot to put X up there) JRPG coming soon. You sure are right, those are really are the same games genre. All platformers and JRPG's as for as the eye can see.PoolCleaningRobot said:So that's what? Sequels sequels and more sequels. Three Mario games. Platformers and jrpgs. The outliers on that list are Shin Meagmi Tensei X Fire Emblem, Bayonetta 2, Fatal Frame V, and TANK! TANK! TANK! That's fine and dandy for you but I remember a magical time called "The Gamecube" era where Nintendo invested in different genres and made games with some meat in addition to the colorful "kids to adults" games and *gasp* actually released 3rd party titles on their console that wasn't centered around the latest gimmick. Most Nintendo fans cite that as the time Nintendo didn't make any money and clearly the Wii made money which means it was great console regardless of the motion-control crippled, shite that came out on it. Do you think people would be buying XB1's, PS4's, and gaming pc's if Nintendo actually made a console that had the same 3rd party titles and a diverse catalog of Nintendo first party titles?xaszatm said:New Super Mario Bros Wii U, New Super Mario Bros 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Zombie U, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, TANK! I gave credit where credit was due. They have Bayonetta and Fatal Frame, but your list says it all. Nintendo consoles means Mario, sequels, and few hot titles. For every Bayonetta there's more action games like Metal Gear Revengence on the other devices and for every Fatal Frame there's multiple good horror titles like Outlast. I can't say there are many games like Super Smash Bros or Shin Meagmi Tensei X Fire Emblem in the world, but I can live without them in exchange for a catalog of other genres I like. Its not like Nintendo makes first party horror games to draw me inxaszatm said:3 Platformers, 2 Action, 1 RTS, 1 FPS, and 1 Mini-Game Collection out right now and 2 Action, 1 Horror, 1 Racing, and 2 (I forgot to put X up there) JRPG coming soon. Pandering. If by pandering you mean "makes desirable products" then yes. Nintendo is an entertainment company. What would they do other than "pander" to someone? They can pander to me which is make good games and a good gaming device that's not centered around a forced gimmick or they can pander to you which apparently means no third parties. I never said they should stop making their games. On the contrary, they should continue. Unlike you, I believe I can have my cake and eat it too if Nintendo didn't shun away third parties with their casual console. I could have enjoyed Fallout 3 and an HD Metroid Prime on my 2006 Wii instead of waiting until 2014 to see a high res version of Samus and buying another device. But no, Nintendo found out they could sell a $250 Wii Fit box and didn't care for anyone else. Sure people would still use pc, xbox, and ps but given the head start but the Wii U wouldn't be floundering right now if it had more to offer. History has always shown that the cheaper console sells more but that clearly isn't enough for the Wii U nowYou are free to think whatever you like about the Gamecube, the Wii, and the Wii U. After all, at the end of the day, it's just a games console. But please think before opening your mouth. Of course XB1's, PS4's, and Gaming PC's would be bought by people even IF Nintendo pandered solely to the hardcore crowd. Why? Because people just prefer other consoles that have different styles (see the last placement of the N64 and Nintendo Gamecube in their respectful console races).
Errr..... okay?xaszatm said:New Super Mario Bros Wii U, New Super Mario Bros 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Zombie U, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, TANK! TANK! TANK!, Game and Wario. If you do not want a Wii U, that's perfectly OK. You are no longer the target audience for the Wii U. But can we stop with the notion that Nintendo has no knock-out games yet? Or that Nintendo doesn't have quality games on the system? Because it does.
BrotherRool said:Serious question, does Nintendo make something other than video games? Otherwise saying some of their employees have 'started' to believe that Nintendo is a company that makes video games seems like a delusional complaint.
This whole thing sounds like an Onion article 'Loser in the current console wars starts complaining that people think they make video games'
You do realize in Nintendo's 100+ years of history they have been a Hanafuda cards business, a taxi business, a love hotel business (although that one is still up for debate) and a toys company right?rasputin0009 said:Just like Michael Pachter does everyday, I'm going to call for Iwata's head. That "Quality of Life" program is the worst idea, and nobody should be championing it as solving Nintendo's issues. Expanding into new markets is a good idea, but not into a market that's totally unrelated to your original. Iwata is the only person believing in this lame scheme, and if I was a shareholder, I'd be extremely worried. With him, it's either backwards-ass thinking or what-the-fuck thinking. Let's hope he gets voted out in June.
When did he say he was throwing videogames under the bus?NoeL said:Can't really blame them. They're losing in the console market but WiiFit sold like hotcakes. A good CEO would jump at the opportunity to explore their new found market. A short-sighted, capitalistic CEO would throw their core market (gaming) under the bus whilst doing so.
Can we please sack this piece of shit? Nintendo desperately needs fresh management.
