This might seem like a silly idea for a thread, but I'm gonna risk it. I was replaying Ico the other day and it got me thinking whether we could make a list of all the weird devices that have been used in games as save points. I'm gonna start with the ones I remember right now:

Save typewriter (Resident Evil series)
Save stone couch (Ico)
Save crystal - evil save crystal that kicks your ass (Final Fantasy XII)

Added:

Save toilet (Dead Rising - No More Heroes)
Save phonecall to Dad (Mother 1-2)
Save questionmark (Final Fantasy VII)
Save froggies (Mother 3)
Save Dragon statue (Ninja Gaiden)
Save radio call (MGS)
Save bench nap (Dead Rising)
Save Metal Forge (Brutal Legend)
Save camera (Dead Space)
Save dormitory desk (Bully)
Save pentagram of doom (Silent Hill)
Save New-U station (Borderlands)
Save virtual memory disk (Beyond Good and Evil)

So, which ones do you remember?

It's a good idea for a thread! Really!

Final Fantasy VII had spinning question marks.

The MGS series had various radio personalities.

All lazy games use the between-level "Do you want to save?" technique.

Ninja Gaiden had dragon statues.

EDIT:

Didn't No More Heroes use toilets?
Reminded me that Dead Rising had save-toilets as well.

Dead Rising...

I was not happy with the save points, nor the shooting mechanics...

Medal of Honour: Heroes 2 on the PSP suck. It says you've hit a checkpoint, and when you die it just sends you back to the start of the frikkin' level anyway.

I'm gonna add to the initial list. Also, I blacked out it seems and can't remember for the life of me what the Silent Hill games were using... Help.

This is a good thread, OP, not silly at all.

Hmm.

The Metal Forge in Brutal Legend (kind of annoying because it reset whatever song you were rocking out to)

The camera thingy in Dead Space. Bluu-blurp

Your dormitory desk in Bully.

Calling your Dad in Mother 1 and 2, and talking to froggies in Mother 3.
This, you tell your dad all about your adventure in Earthbound on the phone to save. Best save device ever.

*EDIT*

Travis Touchdown in No More Heroes uses the crapper to save. best save ever.

*EDIT EDIT*

crap, both my ideas stolen before I even saw the thread, I give up. lol.

Silent Hill had the "Pentagram/Evil Symbol" in the mirror/wall mark.

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment for me is the m-disks in beyond good and evil, was like saving the game to a real memory card by saving the game to a virtual one in the game.

Far Cry 2, the save point was in the first Aid box, or kinda next to it.

I'm out of touch with this save point nonsense nowadays.

For me the save point is usually F5, or F7. (Quicksave)
