Saving PS1 games on PS2 question

So I recently picked up Silent Hill to play on my PS2. I was under the impression that I had to get a PS1 memory card in order to save my game, since it wouldn't save to a PS2 card. However, when I save my PS1 game and then turn the console off when I'm done playing, the save is nowhere to be found (When I die and return to the main screen, the "Load" option is available, but only if I've saved and haven't yet turned the console off). Am I doing something wrong, or am I gonna have to play it all in one go?

Some games only read the memory card when it is in a specific slot. It may have to be in slot 1 for it to read. Try that. If not switch it and try that. If not, then I dunno.

If you're using a Ps1 card it sounds like it's knackered (happens sometimes). Silent Hill can load from Memory Cards but it does need the old PS1 1Meg version.

Also, make sure it's in slot 1, many PS1 games can only read from slot 1.

I don't know about Silent Hill, but I've played PS1 Final Fantasy in the past on my PS2 and had no problems. I just popped in the PS1 memory card and went. Maybe the card is dead?

What slot do you have the memory card in? Like BlindMessiah94 said, many PS1 games only read the memory card in the first slot and not the second one. If it still doesn't work then you may need to get a new one.

I just bought it about a week ago, brand new. I've been putting it in slot 1 also. Perhaps it's because I didn't format it (what the instructions say to do)? I dunno, if the card's faulty, I'll probably just play it in one go.
