I just want to say, and this is in the kindest tone possible, my grammar nazi senses almost overloaded.

OT: People dating robots? That's the only thing I can think of... or maybe dating aliens if that comes first... Maybe virtual reality.

Itself most likely... then it will collapse upon itself and anarchy will ensue and everyone here will be currency for Darwin's little favorite. Yep.

Porn... and everything violent put into onemedia and they will blame that.

Hell, it could just be whatever they see first after a problem arises.

You and me both.

Maybe they'll stop blaming games when gamers start using grammar :D

OT: Games won't stop being used as a scapegoat until an even easier target comes along. All that really will happen is we'll swap gaming as the scapegoat for something else.
So it's really not a win win situation. People always need something to blame, because people don't want to point the finger at themselves.

I would suggest that we just weather the long storm, the blame always ends up shifting to whatever children like next.

Remember before games it was rap, before rap metal, before that tv, then the likes of led zep, before that the beatles, elvis, jazz, demons etc.

Seriously, if you back track through history you will find case after case of the actions of young people being the fault of some other influence and not the fault of people in question being just arseholes.

I think chris rock said it best: [On the US school shootings] Everybody is wanting to know what music were the kids listening to, or what movies were they watching. Who gives a fuck what they was watching! Whatever happened to crazy? What, you can't be crazy no more? Should we eliminate crazy from the dictionary?

(edited due to not trusting escapist members not to take my words out of context)

Good, I'm not the only on whose Grammar Nazi alarm was blaring at full volume...

Well, I'm not really up on modern developments in entertainment, but that seems to be the trend, historically speaking. New forms of entertainment will try to appeal to a large demographic by using the tried and true 'sex an violence' approach. Whatever new form of media comes after gaming will probably do the same and then take the heat for 'corrupting the youth'.

I think scapegoating voting games will pass eventually. Books and music were big scapegoats in the past. I have no idea what the scapegoats of the future will be.

I didn't even read it. I saw the first word wasn't even capitalized and immediately knew the OP had nothing worthwhile to say.

The next scapegoat will be the thing we, the gamer generation, find strange and unsettling. Since Twilight is already here and it's not it, I'll wager it'll be some sort of über 3D full media centre that will mean Tim Burton's Batman and Robin will become science fiction.

Parents will always blame what they don't understand.
Gaming is a relatively new trend, and something completely different today than it was when most of today's parents were kids/teenagers/younger.
It was the same when VHS came along, the older generations had little to no understanding of it, and so blamed the violence on a few popular movies to conceal their own shortcomings as parents.

Sometime in the future, some new kind of technology will likely become hip with the young ones and we, spending too much time on (hopefully) jobs and family, will lose track of current media, and start blaming it for childrens' rebellious behaviour instead of embracing its excistence.

I don't think there is anything else. They've covered all of the bases. They already got television, music, internet, and video games. What else is there?

Thats the funniest thing I've seen all day. I love this site if only for the fact that I get to find all the old internet jokes that are new to me.

OT: ummm, how about tuna. Its the mercury I tell you.
