In honor of the season, I am wondering what should be done on October 31st. I was thinking of playing as many terrifying games as possible, and wonder which ones The Escapist would recommend. Preferably free downloadable PC games, but I'll take suggestions for anywhere.

Amnesia will probably be the most popular choice. Personally I will be playing Costume Quest for Halloween :3 Since I'm too ill to go out. Not very scary though ;)

The original FEAR is quite creepy so I've heard.

I'll admit, it did make me not sleep for a few days when I played the demo. Then again, at that time, I was scared easily, I thought "pft... how could a game be scary?", and played it home alone, at night, with all the lights off. Game was still pretty scary the first time, but if you are into horror a lot, it might not seem to bad.

Not sure of any free games besides Slender, which I guess is supposed to be scary? I definitely second Amnesia, though. That and possibly the Penumbra series, too.

I'd recommend the game Nightmare House 2. It's a mod using the source engine and is about... 3-4 hours in length if you're slower at gaming like me. As far as game mods go it's pretty good and completely wipes the floor with what F.E.A.R. was trying to accomplish. There's another source mod I was playing not too long ago that was pretty good, but the name escapes me at the moment.

Thanks. Played fear a few years ago.... at 3 a.m... with the lights off.... That was fun...

Other than that, I went through Slender, and I have Amnesia already loaded. Thanks!

Don't forget Amnesia's precursors, Penumbra Overture and Black Plague. I thought they were supposed to come out with another one, but they never did, right guys?
RIGHT?
DAMN STRAIGHT I AM RIGHT!

In order of scariness from least scary to most scary:

3. VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE: OCEAN HOUSE HOTEL
2. AMNESIA: THE DARK DESCENT
1. THIEF DEADLY SHADOWS: SHALEBRIDGE CRADLE

Note that #3 and #1 are specific missions/levels, not the game entire.

Oh god that first one......i hated it, and it was a main mission quest :(

also you could try Clive Barkers: Undying (tho that is pretty old) but can't think of any that have recently, well that weren't just the normal things popping up or out at you quickly....which are more like shock then anything.

Captcha: Salt and Pepper - Ahhhhh Push it! its scary i know that song
