I figured I'd ask this as well :D

I was just playing SCP Containment... and I screamed so loud my dog started howling when 173 popped up in my face right when I blinked.

I'd like to hear what all of your scariest games of all time are :D

Silent Hill 1 lives in my parents attic, where I put it the morning after I purchased it, after having spent the night in nightmares.

I pretty much avoided scary games after that.... tried Prenumbra and Amnesia and just don't have the guts to get more than about ten minutes in, I've seen Jesse Cox's playthrough of Amnesia, that's enough for me.

I did however download the SCP game.. fuck that's scary... I always thought SCP would make great material for a horror game/TV series/RPG.

Fillies and Gentlecolts... I present to you, Fatal Frame!

You WILL shit your pants at 0:23. Keep some toilet paper handy.

If that isn't enough, watch this entire video without ever scrolling down or clicking ahead.

The girly screams scared me more than anything. I just don't see that as scary.

When I was a little kid, Tower of Doom was actually rather scary to me, as was Treasure of Tarmin.

Mostly because it was entirely silent until something bad happened.

The first Dino Crisis game on the PS1, why the fuck did I have that game? I was like 7 and my dad bought it home with a few others.

Then again one of the others was The Fifth Element aka the worst damn game in history, so I guess its a tie between those two

Clocktower. It scared the crap out of me. The whole 'no music' thing really helped the matter in favor of the game's freak-out value. That game never gets old.

Half-Life 2 is still one of the scariest games I've played to date.

Fuckin' Ravenholm..

Mainly because of what the zombies and infested combine say freak the living hell out of me.

Thief Deadly Shadows. Cradle. Oh god, the Cradle. The first two can make me pee my pants in fear, too, but this one level just takes the cake. And the statues freaked me out too.

Stalker: Call of Pripyat.

There is nothing that needs to happen at night that cannot be done during daytime. STAY INDOORS.

Also, Bioshock. Nothing in particular really made me scream, but like Stalker, it just oozes an atmosphere that puts you on edge.

Yeah. I played without sound in that part. Fuck that level with a giant, knobbly stick.

It's the people. Not the monsters like Big Daddies, but just the regular people. They are so depraved and devoid of humanity. It freaked the shit out of me. I quit playing after only about two hours.

Edit: And couple that with the fact that things happen suddenly (people jumping out from nowhere, lights suddenly turning off and freaky music playing, etc). I'm an incredibly jumpy person. Ask anyone who has had the misfortune of inadvertently sneaking up behind me while also being within my fist's range. I just start swinging. I just can't play horror games. I try to anticipate the jumpy scares, which puts me in a state of constant anxiety.

While I'm sorry to say I have yet to play many of the classic horror games (like Silent Hill, though Bioshock was both frighteningly good and just plain frightening) I'm gonna have to put down DOOM. You wouldn't think it, but considering that it's lonely, dark and in many cases the game has no music (or sounds for enemies walking) you're basically walking along, alone, until hellish monstrosities are suddenly up in your face.

On top of that, Half Life 2 and Dark Souls are two more games that suprisingly managed to scare the pants off me through their enemies and environments. Half Life 2 because of such isolated and horrifying sections as Ravenholm and Dark Souls because there's no terror quite like being in the middle of a nice Estus Flask when you suddenly see an enemy running at you in full armour and wileding a very pointy-looking sword, knowing that death will send you back far.

Amnesia, Penumbra Black Plague, System Shock 2, Stalker Call of Pripyat, Bioshock 1 and 2 get pretty creepy too, and put you on edge.
