The boss monsters in monster hunter, they themselves aren't scary, its just that they appear from nowhere

From Diablo.
If you've played it, you know what I'm talking about :p

The Butcher!
That evil bastard used to haunt my dreams when I was younger.

Though I still found this guy scarier.

The internet seems to have forgotten about King Leoric.
I was hoping to find a more dramatic picture of him *sulk*

I believe my thought process went something like this;

"Ok, the Butcher is scary as shit, but I'll still kill him."

"Oh, this is where I have to go to kill King Leor---"
"The warmth of life has entered my tomb. Prepare yourself, mortal, to serve my Master for eternity!"

Why did you click? It said to stay away. You're only alive now because this isn't Expert.

Also, I'm surprised no one's mentioned the sounds a Half-Life 2 zombie makes.

Alma from F.E.A.R if that counts.
she's not scary just really messed up
She reminds me too much of something from The Ring/Grudge, so I wasn't too impressed with her.
i don't find horror movies scary they are just either gorefests or have crappy endings or both i know of a few good horror movies

The title says it all. Which monster out of all the games you have played had the number one crap your pants scary monster in your eyes? Like the type of creature that makes that game unplayable in the dark? Soemthing tells me we'll probably recieve a few Silent Hill monsters. Also add pictures if you can, but please add spoilers to the image to save space on the thread.

I really disliked Deathclaws and Yao-Gui in Fallout 3 because they always snuck up on you and scared the crap out of me.

Top: The Deathclaw.

Bottom: The Yau-Gui.
This may strike people as strange but I think it would have to be the Tonberry from FF8. They slowly advance on you and the first time I've fought them I was poorly Junctioned and low level so I did horribly against them.

Another thing was a rat from Oblivion which jumped me from half a cave away.

Anyway these aren't actually the scariest monsters in games, rather the scariest monster moments I've had.

The cybernetic midwives from System Shock 2. Between their tinny voices and those whining servo-motors (and their unfortunate tendancy to appear behind me) they scared the living crap out of me and remain the only monster from that game I actually dread.

People who played as a grunt instead of a psi-op probably don't have this problem (laser rapier + legs = easy kill), but then the game was never scary enough as a grunt.

"I'll tear out your spiiiiine!"

EDIT: Actually, Shodan from SS1, too. In SS2 she was just arrogant, but in the first one she genuinely creeped me out. Her "Who ARE you?" speech deprived me of sleep (not helped by the fact that in SS1 she's just plain uglier).

There shall only be one TRUE answer. Ladies and Gentlemen: PYRAMID HEAD!

He's big, he has a giant sword, his hobbies include murder, rape, and beethoven, and HIS HEAD IS SHAPED LIKE A FUCKING PYRAMID!!!
As many have posted before, Pyramid Head is also my fave scary monster. God, I hate myself for "loving" that character, but he is scary and badass all at once. ><!

In fact, this thread may make me whip out my old ava of him...

The first time I saw the Lambent Brumak at the end of Gears 2, I was moderatly spooked... that is until I realized it had the resilience of a gnat with cancer.

But, some of the scarier ones:

El Gigante and "It" from Resident Evil 4
The Rancor from KOTOR
The first encounter with a thresher maw in Mass Effect
The Leviathan in Gears of War 2
The Bull Rancor from The Force Unleashed
Those almost invincible bugs in Resident Evil 5 (can't remember their name...more annoying than scary, but the cutscene when they kill you still gives me the jibblies)

whatever those things in eternal darkness were that hid in people's corpses while they were still able to function. eeesh. And then they'd pop out and try to crawl into yours.

Curiously it just lost a lot of its scare when Rebirth (better graphics patch) came out. I still remember it fondly, though. Along with FEAR it's one of only two games to ever make me afraid to go for a toilet break at 2am.

I bring you the adorable Covenant family, surely you have not forgotten?

These mean old ghosts always put me on edge. Having Aaron hunt you was a terrifying experience.
That game was awesome beyond compare. Now I wanna play it again....

The woman from the blinding ritual in Project Zero (Eu) / Fatal Frame (US)
She's a good one, but I always found Sae Kurosawa, from the second game, scarier:

No, that's not promotional art (whoever took the pic added the "fatal frame II crap).
That scene is part of the game.
Yes, she did all that.
Yes, she's laughing her ass off (her laughter is the stuff of nightmares, too).
And she's doing it because her twin sister refused to kill her.

Isn't she lovely? =D
