Just wondering, what was the scariest game you have played?
Mine would be Project Zero.

Note: Dead Space is not a valid answer.
Okay I'm kidding, :) say what you want.

Probably the scariest game I've played is F.E.A.R. Extraction Point, the hospital part in particular. But then, I haven't played too many scary games.

Stalker, when you are a fair walk from the nearest help, nearly out of ammo and your armour was shredded by that bastard bloodsucker. You don't have NVGs yet and you you decide to seek shelter in an abandoned train station. That was a mistake you find out as a burer pulls your weapon from your hands. Helpless, you have no option but to flee with your pistol into the night. And I'm sure that I hear snorks on the horizon.

I know this is an obvious answer, but the scariest game I've played is definitely Amnesia: The Dark Descent. This is a game that just shows what's missing from horror games these days. The atmosphere is haunting, every sound effect you hear when walking is terrifying, and just the fact that you have to run away from the monsters rather than blow their heads or limbs off is definitely a great change for a horror game these days.

PZ is quite a scary one indeed. Of course, Amnesia needs to be mentioned here too.

Minecraft. First time playing, outside at night with no tools.

I recall me and my friend being forced to dig 'graves' with our bare hands and wait in pitch blackness for the dawn, hearing the monsters right above our heads.

My first game I ever bought on 360 was Condemmed: Criminal Origins. I was quite young when the Xbox first came out, so that did scare me. Goddamn mannequin's. Also, the first FEAR did quite well. Both did the job quite well of creating an atmosphere of dread. :p

Dead Space was very fun, but was mostly "jump" scares.

Also, I think there's a "yo momma" joke in here somewhere. :p

"Don't worry" I whispered "They don't know we are in here". We kept hearing sounds so I made a window in our sealed cave entrance to look outside, a cluster of red eyes stared back at me.

Those spiders, they are so much more creepier than the high quality ones in Skyrim.

Bioshock, it went dark as I was playing and someone slammed a door somewhere in my building causing me to jump.

I agree, Condemned was damn scary, the second one was a bit of a joke though. After the first few levels you became an unstoppable machine and that's usually the point where the game is no longer scary.

I'd have to say amnesia The dark decent, it understood that being able to defend yourself only makes things less scary. Seriously that game is all kinds of scary, kinda like the clock tower series back in the day.

I love horror games, but the 2 scariest games for me have to be Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth and (surprisingly) Dead Space 2 on Hard Core difficulty. I haven't had a thrill like I did being worried about dying and losing hours of progress in some time... Though I will admit the atmosphere and feel of DS2 was nowhere near as good as the original's. Where I found Silent Hill 2 to be an amazing game, I didn't find it to be very scary. Offsetting, yes, but where I felt uncomfortable, it never quite became scary for me. Silent Hill 3, where not as good as 2, was scarier to me. The Resident Evil remake for GameCube was also really well done. Fatal Frame (Project Zero for most of the world) would be scarier to me if I didn't get so annoyed with the camera controls at times, and Ammesia just never really clicked for me I guess, though I did still enjoy it.

Everything Fatal Frame, in particular 2 and 3, Clock Tower 3, Silent Hill 3 and, to a lesser extent, Haunting Ground.

System Shock 1 & 2. Both games created an atmosphere that creeped me out on a massive scale and always kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm sure part of it was their use of sound. Being able to hear monsters nearby but not being able to find them while you're low on ammo and your gun is in terrible condition. Ah....fond memories.
