I forgot to mention a recent movie with a sci-fi edge that I think you younguns will enjoy, called Pandorum (2009). I liked it. It was different. Not quite a pure horror movie, but just enough horror and just enough sci-fi that it fits right in with a Halloween screening session right up there with Alien.
