Schadenfreude, gloat?

First of all I'm from germany and I'm having a debate over a word Schadenfreude.
I know that this word exists in the english language, just like autobahn and kindergarten.
So a "friend" of mine said that you have no other word for schadenfreude. I say it's not true there is gloat. He responded with: "That's not a noun."
Well my questions to you are
Are gloat and schadenfreude nouns?
Are there other words that mean schadenfreude?

I'd say schadenfreude is a noun.

But I don't think there's a singular word in English for it. Like "nam-shub" in Sumerian. Sure, you can get a rough translation, but there's no faster way to get the point across than the original word.

Schadenfreude to my understanding is taking pleasure in the misfortune in others. Correct me if I am wrong of course. I don't think we have a specific term for it, gloat is not close enough to warrant a direct translation. If I had to compare I would just use the characters from Always Sunny as an example.

Gloat is, in fact, a verb. Closest I can think of is for another word for schadenfreude is sadism.

"Gloat" is a verb. it's pretty much an action related to, or caused by schadenfreude, if that makes you feel any better.

Schadenfreude. Damage-amusement, basically. I'd go with Sadism, although it can mean something less. So, "Semi-Sadism".
