I have officaly just lost all faith in our education system. I was like one of seven people in my class who could find all 50 states, i think half the class couldn't fine more than 4 or 5. Does anyone else feel the really embarrased by this? And has something like this happened to you?

I'm not embarassed to say I might have trouble differentiating Iowa and Indiana, and all states like that, but really, most couldn't find more than 5? Wow.

Yeah, we're pretty bad. I can;t name them all by heart, but I can find them. We just don't have a good education system.

My story though, is a kid in my class thought Canada was a state. Woo, go public education!

My mother is a teacher in a public school in New York State. I hear horror stories on a weekly basis that make me want to send my kids to private schools.

what do you mean by find? Like point out a state on a unlabeled map of the US or a globe. And of those 4 or 5 states if one wasn't their own state they live in then I truly quite.

But the real question is where in America you are. If you're south of the Mason-Dixon line, that fact wouldn't surprise me. Anywhere else, it would just disappoint me.

Most kids don't travel out of state that often. If they don't leave the state and knowing where states isn't something that they'll exposed to everyday, then of course they don't know where the states are. That doesn't mean education sucks, it means that nobody cares where the states are. It something that kids learn once and then forget.

Seeing as I live in Indiana I find it easy to differentiate it from Iowa, However I do find it sad that kids in America do not care for a good education. I mean after like the 7th grade, you basically go over the same stuff in History, Geography, and English. It makes me sad that this country is full of ignorant people.

don`t sweat it people i`m from chile and it`s normal that in private schools people normally get mixed up with countries and other.. so you are ok

Granted, the public school I went to is one of the best in the country. There are public schools that really are horrible.

Know what's even more fun? Ask the students to name provinces in Canada, or countries in Africa. And by fun, I mean depressing.

The public education system is broken, and has been for a very long time. The question is, what can we do about it?

Well politically it is European being a part of Denmark.
But anyway, I can't think of any particular examples of stupidity, but there is a obvious collective ignorance and general retardation in my school.

Oh no. I was talking about continents. We were all given a map of the seven continents and asked to label them. She labeled Greenland as Europe. I know, because i corrected her test. She got the others right though. She just included Europe into Asia. As for the rest of her mistakes i can't remember when they happened.
