School Uniform

i had a school uniform when i was in england, when i moved to america they didnt wear any.

i wish they did though! i thought they looked snazzy lol

EDIT: i really don't see any significant benefits from school uniforms.

My schools reasons are:

If someone from the outside has entered the school they can tell them apart.

Kids are less likely to be bullied about their clothes.

It shows you are ready to work.

I live in Germany, so luckily we were never bothered with this kind of nonsense. Dear Lord, how dull it must be with everyone wearing the same clothes every day... -.-

I barely used to wear most of my uniform anyway, made very little difference to me personally. Didn't mind the uniform though when I did have to wear it all, it let you know your place.

I live in England and (Recently) finished school, my uniform was Black Trousers, a White Shirt, a Striped Tie and a Padded Black Blazer. Needless to say I said screw it and wore what I wanted.

In my last year the teachers gave up trying to tell people what to wear and to tuck in their shirts so alot of people were just wearing their normal clothes (Mainly Tacksuits... darn chavs)

I see why there are uniforms but I don't get why they are so strict about it, you can't even untuck your shirt and some of my teachers wouldn't let you undo any buttons on your shirt (Which is a pain if you have an adams apple...)

At my high school we went from standard black blazers to these fucking awful blue ones with gold embroidery around the collar along with gold and blue ties. The insults from other schools were insane, and to be fair I think I'd do the same in their situation; we looked like our own house in a damn Harry Potter book, and not in a good way either :S

I think it's a good way to irradicate individualism (negatively speaken). However, it's also a great way, to teach you, to bond with others' through personality, instead of style and looks.

I don't 100% agree with them but I'll try stick up for them.

1. Paedophiles, kids from other schools come to start a fight(which has happened before)

2. More kids would get bullied about their clothes, bullying is pretty low at my school.

3. Well, you're in school, where you are suppose to learn and do your work. So, the teachers.

I can't really see the argument for uniforms. Dress Codes yes, but taking it to the uniform extreme? I was so much happier with everything once I left the catholic school uniform system.

Some people abuse the privilege, but that's why we have dress codes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's okay to show nudity on television here.
At least, there's no law against it.

But yeah, I've always hated the idea of wearing a school uniform. I just don't see the point, like Rokkolpo said there are little to no benefits from wearing them.

My school has uniforms and I really don't care about wearing them. Uniforms are a thing you need to get used to in later life so you might as well get used to it early on. I really don't understand why people complain about it. My school's uniform actually looks really nice in sixth form so I actually support it.

2.i agree, less kids are bully'd with uniforms. but still there must be the cool crowd.

3.or you could show them by working hard instead dressing by code.

oh and a last question: do you guys all change clothes after school? (meaning going directly home) walk around in it all day.....or keep extra clothes with you?

I see them as a means to conveniently identify students of different grade levels in a school system so crowded it has to "farm" education diplomas and round up students quickly. In example 6th graders wear white polo shirts, 7th graders wear red and so on.

Sure, you don't get to express yourself through visual aesthetic but it makes things easier for the process.

I live in America and my high school didn't have uniforms and I'm glad about that. If you're too lazy to pick out an outfit in the morning then you've got some major problems to address. And I don't think having all of the students dress the same would really alter test scores that much. The kids who want to work will work and those who don't won't, no matter what they're wearing.

Liverpool here and the uniform doesn't just go as far as uniform, guys can't have hair past their collars and girls can't have hair on their face or wear make-up, it's ridiculous, and I'm one of those guys where everything grows ridiculously fast so I'm constantly getting haircuts. Plus it's a catholic school so you have to do all the usual masses, confirmations and such, no matter what you believe.

I like uniforms. Stops my massive sense of judgement getting in the way of getting to know people.
My school was pretty relaxed about it in the summer though. As long as we had the right shirt and trousers, the lack of blazers and ties usually went unnoticed.

We don't have uniforms at my school, but according to my friends I still dress like a 'kinky school girl' anyway. I'm not sure if that's good or not....

Also, anyone want to tell me what sixth form is? I feel like a big dumb American for asking, but I'm still curious : S

I go home and get changed, some people just stay in their school clothes if they are lazy/not going out.
