I love the Science! Articles. Great stuff and for the body and face thing, i have to fully agree. The blackhole idea is just brown pants scary but i love the science behind it!

It's useless, Admire. Any robot worth his microchips can tell you are a flimsy human due to your thermal signature and whatnot. (And I will continue to call you Admire so I can make stupid puns on demand.)
I'll set Cavil on you.

Generally speaking I have my doubts about China having done this unless it can be demonstrated on a more practical scale. Not that I doubt that they could, I mean they are involved in a technological arms race and military build up, and the reasons why they would be interested in such things are obvious... BUT I would think that if this was truely accomplished at any practical level I wouldn't be hearing about it on The Escapist before anywhere else, and there would be more of an overall reaction.
the fuck is this xenophobic shit? China doesnt really show any more of a disposition towards arms races than america does, but if this was discovered in america, Im sure you wouldn't instantly assume it was for military applications. In fact, the alternative energy angle is a lot more likely than your kneejerk reaction to a foreign power developing a new tech, because China is pretty much in the process of becoming one of the greenest nations.
Actually quite to the contrary. China only only stole military technology during the Clinton administration, but they have also been developing new weapons like the Yuan class Submarine and testing them on US troops. When they "tagged" the Kitty Hawk (ie silently sailed up and then revealed their prescence to make the point that they could have killed it) it was a fairly big deal in certain circles even if it wasn't touted heavily by the press. What's more a lot of translated periodicals and such show that China is very much interested in making a bid for direct world domination, one of the central motivations being racial destiny, and another is simply living space.

China really has no threats around them to warrent a massive military build up like they are undergoing. The only things they could do with these weapons is pretty much pit them against Western powers. Combined with the saber rattling above it is rather disturbing.

It's not "Xenophobia" because like 20 years ago when I was in high school I would have told you China was aweome, and all the cool stuff going on down there, with the Hong Kong Action cinema and stuff. Today my impressions are entirely differant due to direct experiences and what I've seen them doing. Had they not done things like the above move on a US sub, the development of new weapons, and some of the speeches that have made it to the US through back channels... well my opinions would be differant. Right now I just call it as I see it.

It should also be noted that whether people like it or not the US has a lot of global policing responsibilities. Many of which we have been asked to assume. We are also pretty much the strong arm of the UN, doing most of the heavy lifting and such. China in so far is not, and what's more is not culturally able to act in many of the capacities that the US is (unless you are very dumb). When you look at how they treated their citizens during the Olympics and such, it's hard to really give these guys greater global responsibility for promoting human rights with a straight face.

What's more I'll also admit a lot of it is simply my overall views on a global unity. Any way you look at it they are a rival. They want that military power to stand off the US or eventually overcome us. That is not in our best interests. It's not a right/wrong thing as much as an us vs. them thing. However discussing this (and explaining my position fully) would involve writing another small book. I've covered it in a few of my other posts (and will probably do so again), it would get waaay off this subject.

So could this mean we could make wormholes useful in space travel i.e. hyperdrives? Also, when it comes to women, the number one feature that attracts me is the woman's willingness to speak and interact with me. From that point, I'll be able to come up with reasons why I should find her attractive, regardless of her appearance. Of course, by the time I've done this, the chicks are always long gone.

I don't normally read this column, but since I'm procrastinating I figured I might as well read about something as interesting as pseudo-black holes, which are quite interesting by the way.

in regards to the emobowel/braclet:

I can see applications for this beyond online investors. Having a heated argument with a loved one? Take a look at your EmoBowls and then have some makeup sex. Getting too engrossed in a sports match at your local bar with opposing fans looking to break some beer bottles? Pop some peanuts into your EmoBowl and laugh it off with a brewskie. OK, so maybe those aren't the best applications for such an invention, but perhaps you can come up with something better.
I would figure that you could use something like this in police interrogation or psycho-therapy. I don't know practical or efficient that would be, especially since we already have lie-detectors, but HEY it's an application for the invention, right?

As many have pointed out, that is not a black hole.

*Chalks up another awesome thing to have come out of Texas*

And I see that bracelet having more stoner appeal than business appeal. Think about it--get stoned, calm down, see the pretty lights, stay stoned...It's a wonderful cycle that could only be better if a monkey came by and served you brownies off of a tray made of bananas.

oh and what a very original reaction to autonomous robots. really? suggesting that autonomous robots might kill all the humans? don't you think someone might jsut put in a variable saying "no nuclear holocaust"?
That just makes things even more complicated because now if you mess up the code that uses that variable you cause a nuclear holocaust anyways.
Kinda hard to mess up "nuclear holocaust = false"

But that's just a boolean variable that's set to false. You have to actually put in some code to actually stop a nuclear holocaust. If that could work then you could do something like sentience = true, or dollarsInMyBankAccount = 99999999999.

methinks you're taking this slightly more serious than me.

maybe a guarded loop?

For me, the body is what gets my attention, but the face is what KEEPS my attention, with very few exceptions.

I've tried Skynet = true when I needed a science project, but it wouldn't work. I'm just assuming that similar statements wouldn't work as well.

You could also try nuclear holocaust = purple, just to confuse everything.
