Hi folks.

So, how is the Scott Pilgrim game you might be wondering? If you want a quick answer, the game is alright.

Why is the game alright and not great? Well, you're about to find out.

If you're a fan of the comics (or the movie) then you will enjoy playing as Scott and the gang. The plot is just "Kill Ramona's 7 evil ex's}, so if you are hoping for a groundbreaking action game, you will be sorely disappointed.
The game allows you to choose between 4 characters, and few unlockable.
The game is set up as a Streets of Rage type of game. It's 2D and you can move your character up and down the street.
The only problem with these types of games in general is that it is sometimes very hard to see if you are even with the enemy you are trying to hit.

The fighting works pretty well in the game. Some moves are hard to execute, however, whether it was the fault of the controller or my fault at sucking, some of the simple Down+X moves just didn't want to work. Very aggrivating when you are surrounded by enemies and need to do a particular move.
Also, after you defeat an armed enemy, you can pick up and use his weapon. You can also throw items you pick up. Throwing items is useful to stop enemies that want to charge you.

The most aggrivating and almost GAME breaking flaw, is the fact that you vulerable while getting up. This is most obvious towards the end of the game when you have to fight Gideon. You fight him on a cliff and he has a punch, which he does quite often) then knocks Scott off the cliff. When Scott respawns, he's unable to pull a quick block and is immediately knocked back off. This will wash and repeat until you run out of health and are forced to use your health reserve (you can block when you run out of health).

Besides that flaw, Scott Pilgrim can be kind of fun. If you have a buddy, then let them play with you in the 1-4 person coop. The game will add more enemies though, so make sure you utilize teamwork.
Also, each character has his/her own moves. Will Scott is pretty much all punches and kicks, Ramona uses her hammer and punches.

Is the game perfect? No, not close.

Is the game fun? Yes. (When you're not getting your ass kicked!)

Okay, time for a bit of a breakdown. I'm no expert on this stuff, but I've done a few reviews in the past so we'll see what I can do.

For one thing, it doesn't seem all that organized, or very long. Granted, with a game of this style or of this nature, there isn't much to speak about, so I'll let you slide on that. However, with the organization...I have problems in this area I was. My problems lie in the fact that I'm too organized and come off as stiff in my writing. Yours on the other hand seems very jumpy.

You tell us what to expect story-wise, tell us about unlockables, then space out, what I would have left together, the two parts about gameplay. Say that its a Streets of Rage or Final Fight style game in the same paragraph describing the gameplay.

I do like the fact though that you hit on what is a major flaw in the game in its own paragraph. It brings much needed attention to something that can really make or break the game and is a nice way to let people know it didn't slip by unnoticed in your review.

Overall, its a decent review. There a few grammatical errors, and you picked a good game to review, as in, it wasn't extremely long and there wasn't much in the way of painstaking detail.

P.S. I would have gone into a little more detail about the games art style and its homage to the comics.

I didn't read the comics- or watch the movie, for that matter- but I played the game and found it quite enjoyable. Now I'm going to add in some things I noticed in-game that you didn't touch on, i.e. my own mini-review.

While playing, I found out quite quickly that since it is a 2D game, that means you can't hit people that are just above or below you, even if they are only like half an inch away. This gets very annoying, escpecially when you're fighting more that one enemy, which is always but for 4 of the 7 boss fights.

Despite that, once your character reaches level 13 or 14 (I forget which), the game is pretty much broken by a weapon skill that lets you hit 3 times with 1 push of the X button, which pretty much means no enemy can hit you if you've got a weapon, (which is just about always, especially if you're Ramona who can spawn her own weapons) and if you're paying attention. Not even Gideon is difficult if you know enough to dodge his punch and just spam using the heart sword or whatever that was >.>

The story is pretty much non-existent, other than the slight explanation in the intro which is pretty much this: Scott likes Ramona, she has 7 evil ex's that you much defeat. That's it.

As someone who didn't read the comics or watch the movie, nothing really made sense to me- but it was still an alright game worth what I payed for it.

EDIT- don't play as Stills unless you really have to, he's just terrible compared to the others

I'm not a Scott Pilgrim fan at all but this is a pretty good River City Ransom homage, in fact I bought it for that fact alone and that O'Malley gets some money from me kind of irks me. It's not a great game by any sense of the imagination, but it's a good game. My big problem with it (other than the license) is the way it uses cheap hits by off screen enemies to try and make it harder artificially. Definately not the worst XBLA or PSN store download available, but nowhere near the top of the games that are flat out amazing on them either. Worth the $10 but just barely.
