Was just playing God of War II, and when I'd just defeated the first boss, the game stopped working. I then checked on it, and then noticed there's a small hack on it. Now, do I give GAME 6$ to fix it, or is there another way?

EDIT: Oops, forgot to say, it isn't mine, it's a game I borrowed for a long while, and the real owner of the game isn't that careful with his CD's unless it's a game made by God (aka Last Remnant and the Zelda Collector's Edition for Gamecube), at least his "God"

You can buy self repair kits, we had one but lost it. I'm not sure how much they cost though...

Where did you get the game? You can likely return it for a refund... I mean that's just silly.

Hmmm, seems like the best way to go about it, unless you feel like grabbing another one. But I would say that the best option is Trivun's idea of returning it if you can.

I almost wish we could go back to the cartridge days like the N64. At least then we wouldn't have to worry about a little teeny, tiny scratch mucking up the expirence for us. I mean hell, you could drop a cartridge off the 3rd floor onto concrete and it'd still work.

You'd have to blow into it first.
That solved all catridge related problems.

I am pretty careless with my disc's so I know from experience how annoying this is.
If you have trouble with scratched discs quite often then I recommend investing in a kit to remove scratches (ebay?).
If its just this one then you might as well bite the bullet and take it down to GAME.

If you have a repair kit for glasses (getting rid of scratches on the optics) that can work. Or use a cd/dvd buffer.

Actually, that was Scotth266's idea. Mine was to buy a self-repair kit, you can get them cheap from most stores but I'm not sure exactly how much. Don't cost much to buy though, and you can use them again and again...

Don't use a self-repair kit.

Actually, it depends how big the scratch is. Is it a Oh-Crap-I-kicked-the-console-over-while-it-was-spinning-and-now-there's-a-chasm-in-the-plastic-coating scratch, or just a light graze. If the former, see below, if latter, it shouldn't make a difference to the game.

My idea would be that if it's really stopping the game from working, try pulling the "It's already Broken" bull, and if that doesn't work, get it professionally resurfaced. It's only about £3, and it'll definitely work. I did it with both Halo 3 and CoD4. It Works.

Yeah, I would recommend trying to get it repaired without having to go consult GAME. However, keep in mind that not all repair kits are created equal. Had this same sort of problem a few months back, and it's something to keep in mind.

No guarantee of that. I did that with a psone Final Fantasy game, and the game just froze from a scratch at a later point. With a small nick like the OP described then resurfacing could well fix it though.

Brand new god of war bust be what $19.99 at it's most expensive? instead of a 15 dollar repair kit or 6 dollar spray fix or whatever you planned on doing just buy another one for a few extra bucks. God of war is worth it.
