I've been trying to get a screen capture from a DVD, so I've been using print screen, pasting it into a few different image editors, saving it first as a .jpg and then a .bmp but when I re-open the image, I get a whole load of blank canvas area.

wtf people?

Can anybody help?

You could... decypt the dvd extract the Vobs convert them into avs scipt and use virtual dub to get high quality screen shots but thats kinda long and takes up quit a bit of space...
so i wouldn't do that unless you are desperate

Try saving them in a different format, such as a png or Targa (tga). Png's are lossless, unlike jpegs. I always save things in png whenever possible. If that doesn't work, I can't help you.

Google, look up FRAPS (there's a free version on the website). Run it while playing the movie. At the point you want to take the picture pause it, and press your Screenshot button. Voila.
GAH! Why didn't I think of Fraps!? Thanks everybody.
