Would you pay the full $250 just to copyright a screen name?

Also, we tend to look down upon threads of the pointless nature.

Um...why? That doesn't seem worth paying for.
If you've really got money you desperately need to waste, I suggest cocaine and hookers.

I guess if you want to waste the money. Honestly how many people are going to want your screen name? Why would you want it copyrighted in the first place? Did you do something amazing and don't want anyone taking the credit?

No... because odds are that your screen-name has already been copyrighted as the name for a pharmaceutical drug.

Well no why the bloody hell would you need to do all that effort unless you are going to use your name for something like a buiseness or something

Ah well considering part of my screen name is the super delicious, high in vitamins and minerals, Ovaltine, it is safe to say that in the world of screen names, no one gives a shit what yours is.

If you really think that your name is in danger of being stolen or used without your consent, which may result in personal damage or loss, then please do so. Then again, this is the internet. If you get screwed over with one Alias, just make another.

You could, but why not use the money for something better, like kindling or confetti?

Seriously why? I'd like to know if you have any reason why other than "because I could" that sounds remotely reasonable.

Having realized I know nothing about copyright laws, I looked through the internet and found WIPO.

http://www.wipo.int/about-ip/en/ipworldwide/country.htm

Alternatively, you could always do what I do, and not reveal your intellectual property for everyone to see. Though that doesn't stop corporations from stealing my ideas.

That's on the rules of copyright. As to how one gets something copyrighted, I have no idea whether there's a process or whether you simply have to put your name and the date on your work (which is what I was told several years ago). Keep in mind I live in Canada, which is like the USA, except with more freedom.
