While I use FRAPS for just about everything I need to do, it occurred to me that FRAPS cannot record windowed screens, or custom dimensions that other programs happen to have. So, I ask, what program(s) do you use or have used that worked well that give me the ability to record a windowed screen for both video and audio. I ask this because I've tinkered around with a few and have either had lack luster results, or the program outright crashed or failed to combine the audio/video, thus separating them and making more work for myself.

So, what programs [other than FRAPS] does anyone use/recommend? I appreciate the help.

At the moment I use the free CamStudio, and with a microphone rigged up to my speaker system I can make it capture audio even if it doesn't want to.

Here's a vid I recorded so you can check the audio/video quality:

Minecraft was running in windowed mode when I recorded this. The program lets you pick a custom capture area.

I gave CamStudio a shot and was quite pleased with the results. Have you ever had it fail to complete the movie if you do long recordings, say, around 30-40min in length? I actually did a 45min run with it and the video seemed to have been corrupted. However, smaller videos worked just fine. Perhaps it was an isolated incident. I'll try it again. Thanks for the suggestion. :>

Yeah, it's not very good for long video. I have the same problem. You'd be better off breaking up whatever you're doing into 5-10 minute chunks, then stitching it together later with windows movie maker. If you want really long videos you might have to pay money for something better.

At least I know it's not just me then, heh. I'll try to work around that issue since I actually like CamStudio for windowed programs. Thanks again. ^_^
