I'm looking for an RPG for PC or Xbox 360 that i can fool around with without devoting my life to, features fun character customization as well as good gameplay, and for MMORPGs, a game that's fun without having to pay for everything and has a good social aspect. Describe the game premise, what system it's for, please.

*Note: I already have Oblivion, no runescape or club penguin, please, and NO I WILL NOT play WoW.

KOTOR 1 and 2, they may be last-gen and will have several issues on the 360 but they are sure as hell some damn fine RPGs.

Then again, you could just get the PC versions.

I'd say Dragon Age but you said something that you wouldn't devote your life to...

So I second KOTOR 1 & 2.

Jade Empire. Provided you mean customizable stats, not appearance.

Although for the PC version there are hacks to change your appearance to various NPCs.

Bioware games, pick just about any.

For the 360 you've got Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age and Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic 1 & 2 are backwards compatible.

You should look into the Avernum series. It lacks in the graphics and sound department, but more than makes up for it in gameplay and writing.

Jade Empire- my favourite
KOTOR- unbelievably good Star Wars RPG
KOTOR 2- had some major problems, no where near as good as 1st, but still a damn fine RPG
Dragon Age- decent RPG
Mass Effect- my personal favourite game- decent RPG/shooter
Mass Effect 2- 2nd favourite- less RPG/more shooter, but still decent. Story/acting makes up for lack of RPG gameplay

I think I just have a thing for BioWare... ,<3

As someone else said, Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360- And AMAZING game, covering 2 discs.

I too are in the same predicaminte. I tried already suggested ones here, none of them have stuck for me.

If this was a few years ago I would highly recommed Guild Wars for an MMORPG but now a days it's just dead and left to thrive of the hardcore. But not to worry Guild Wars 2 should be coming out early next year :D!

Have you looked into Dungeons & Dragons Online?
Seriously. It's everything you're looking for.

Well, so long as you don't look for a polite community.

If you're looking for an RPG based more around a story, then the aforementioned (Insert name of any game made by Bioware here.) should work.
If you want an MMO, MapleStory has picked up on the updates, and now it has a hell of a lot less grind. It's also free, and some worlds have great communties.

I would say Baldur's Gate II or Planescape Torment, but you probably don't want to get THAT absorbed. All I Can say is mod the hell out of Oblivion, that game can really be anything you want it to be.
P.m me If you want a list of fantastic mods.

Knights of the old republic (KotOR) 1&2 are certainly both good games which will capture you without all the endless side quests, inventory issues (ME1) and grinding (for minerals to upgrade your ship/weapons) you might find in ME.

For sheer immersive depth and continuity however ME all the way.

Dragon age is good but certain class/specialization choices can make life very difficult if not done properly, and oh GOD the LOADING TIMES >.< Its starts out ok but the longer you play the longer they get. The longest Ive waited so far for a load screen before rebooting my comp was 20 mins :/

Bauldurs Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights 2 (follows DnD 3.0) and I also liked Guild Wars.
BG2 - I haven't gotten far in, but the character creation is very detailed, and the story is pretty good (so I've heard)
NWN2 - I like that you can pick your party, and character customization is huuugeee. So many options!

Guild Wars is the only MMO I've played. When you're out questing in the wilderness, you're alone unless you take people with you in a party - in town you can meet up with people. There's guilds, arena battles... stuff like that. =)
