Today, I was over at a friends house and while waiting around for somebody else to show up, we started playing a game his rental company sent him called "section 8." It's kinda like star wars battlefront meets space marines. I liked it alot. Only got in 2 games though before the other guy showed up, so my infatuation with the game may have been just the "OOOOO something new and shiny" response.
so the question:
What does the community think of this game, if anybody has ever heard of it? should i rent/buy/never think about again?

I played the demo, and found it...eeeh Ok, at best. it's not bad, it just didn't add anything new except for the "orbital drop" thing. but if you like it, may I suggest a rental?

I remember it was a hot topic of the game industry when it Came out, some loved it and others hated it, much like killer 7 and Deadly Premonition.
I've yet to try it, I was never an FPS fan.

I played it at release, the game is great and the drop in spawn system is a nice feature. My only problem with the game is Games for Windows live which completely ruined the game, I played the open Beta and it was fine and then the release version had all the GWFL crap on top and it just totally ruined it for me.

Played the demo. Pretty average to be honest. The orbital drop feature as a nice idea, but other than that I didn't feel it did anything stellar enough to warrant actually purchasing. Haven't even bothered renting it.

Space Marines meets Battlefield. Two old premises rolled into one to create a thoroughly mediocre dish.

It was actually not bad.

It had a neat spawn mechanic, being able to drop in from the sky and call equipment from orbit.

Generic as all hell though. Shame.

I played through a bit of the single player and a few rounds online. It was very unsatisfying. Big burly man-suits running around taking as much hits to their hitboxes as their health bars deem sufficient and then die in a 'oops i am dead' animation.

The weapons are all unsatisfyingly pew-pew lego manufactured, and nothing had enough oomph behind it to properly be called a weapon.

It gets stale after an hour. I'd say rent it for a day. If you're not tired of it by then, you might want to concider getting your brains checked out buying it.

Its pretty mediocre to be honest. And generic. So I don't like Section 8.

Worth a rent

I wouldn't say its generic, its no more generic than the COD clones that keep being churned out. Like I said my only complaint with the game was GWFL. I thought the fact that you didn't die in 2seconds was a good thing, I play ETQW and its similar there, if you get 3 headshots you can kill someone in like 2-3 seconds otherwise it takes like 5 or more in section 8 I remember it taking longer because of the shields/health and armor perks and the fact that you had to fight at certain ranges to be effective, very tactical game.

That doesn't make it bad but I guess most people just want COD and the OMG i just ownedz you!!!

I got the game and liked it but the problem was GFWL rained it for me. Something about my code or something meant I couldn't play online.

I thought it was incredibly mediocre and generic.
Not bad enough to be considered shit, not good enough to be considered a game I'd recommend.

I know what you mean, I hated GWLF on it to, had to use a GWFL tag and if you wanted to change it you had to pay MS points or real money if you had never used it etc, I remember the forums after release, loads of people with your compliant that could never play the game, apsolute nightmare and it ruined the game.

Are people playing it still? It's one of those common cases of games that go under the spotlight really fast after release.

yea one of the things i was liking was the space marine aspect. i could take more than 2 bullets and still be alive, but without the obnoxious amount of health and shields in halo.
