Seemingly insignificant features you love

Indicating to me where I can and can't loot as well as letting me know what I have already plundered. I love Fallout it was a pain in the ass in the loot department. KOTOR 1 also was guilty, they wouldn't tell me if something was empty and I would waste time on that crap.

I also really dig codex's for some reason. I guess if I'm going to spend up where to 80 hours in a game world I think its interesting enough to give me some context within it.

What features in games do you love, that most others would pass by?

For me i love TF2 for having a colourblind option which changes about some of the visuals to make it easier to see.

Obviously most people arent ever going to use this but i like that they've added something for a small demographic of people which im part of.

So what easily overlookable features do like?

Yeah its in the advanced options in the main menu, i havent played it with the option turned off so i dont actually know how much difference it makes specifically for TF2.

But i wish other games would include it, in cod i always end up shooting teammates because i cant tell the difference between the red and green names that appear above heads

I know right!
In World at War you could change the name colors so like teammates had bright names and enemies had dark, or something like it.
I don't think they have that anymore.

Rag doll phyics and the ability to move dead bodies.

I've spent hours and hours in games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion throwing dead bodies down stair ways just because I find it amusing. Rag doll also leads to WTF?! moments where enemies die and fall in naughty positions, always good for a laugh.

OT: Probably when a game lets you position the "Are you sure? Yes No" messages anywhere you want, so you can click rapidly if you want to, e.g., sell a lot of items on a list.

Not sure if this qualifies as a "feature", but my personal favorite addition to any game is quality walking animations, namely for player characters. You're going to be looking at it for a long time, and it should reflect exactly what your character is all about.

Such as Assassin's Creed (1). The way Altair carries himself demonstrates everything he is. He keeps his back straight, and his shoulders back, makes confident strides: all shows that he has a purpose and is there to do a job. Yet, he keeps his head down, isolating himself from the world around him. All of this demonstrates that he carries himself with a cold, calm purpose, that he is there to do what needs to be done and get out.

Skippable cutscenes.

It should be a crime to not include them. Especially if they're right before a boss, and we're forced to watch it every time we die.

Gagazet Seymour? Or maybe Yunalesca? Those cutscenes take forever.

OT: Irridium gets it in one. I love me some skippable cutscenes.

The ability to put your weapon away. Done best in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, where it would always happen at the end of fight scenes, and had a dedicated button.

Jumping/rolling not being a way to get around faster. Otherwise, every long corridor forces you out of character, to act like a total moron.

Walking. If NPCs walk, I want to be able to keep pace, rather than dart ahead, wait, dart ahead, wait.

Good subtitles, that can be read on a standard definition television.

In addition to cutscenes being skippable you should be able to pause them. I like watching cutscenes (for the first few times or so) and I'd hate to miss them because of my weak wimpy bladder.

Quality weapon models/skins (CoD4 )
Lack of level system in skill-centric games, or easy rank hacking.

In brink when you wanna respawn you can do so even a few seconds AFTER the timer hit 0:00.

It lets you wait for a medic to come by till the very last second and then some, and still have enough time to change your mind.

The little things NPC characters say. In some games NPC characters say the most classic things. Sometimes I find myself sitting there listening to a whole conversation when I should be ramming a blade into their throat or loading them with lead
