Map of the Problematique was one of my favorite songs that wasn't featured in Guitar Hero.
But no one here in Canada knows who they are except me nad my friends.

Hah, I'm sure their fanbase has been increased largely by Borderlands, if it weren't for that, I bet many people would never have heard of them, myself included.

Sick Puppies. Not that unknown but i don't really know anyone else who is a fan, but i could say the same about Soundgarden.
Soundgarden has a strong and big fanbase, Im in that fanbase, they are my favorite band. Not very unknown, but still amazing.

In case you dont know, they are back together.
No i didn't know that, thats excellent news! Thank you for lightening up my day.

Gorillaz, but they've charted, so that's a longshot.

not sure if they're really lesser known but I love Within Temptation, and I mostly get confusion when I tell people about them

I don't know about the other guy but i said it because I'm tired of people who became Beatles fans after they saw across the universe and the only songs they know are all you need is love and yellow submarine, I can't tell you how many people I've met like that and it pisses me off

Saw someone mention Ghostland Observatory...hell yes. I love them!

I have been listening to Russian Circles recently. Baroness, Crystal Castles, El Ten Eleven, have been in rotation as well.

BIGELF. I've seen several of these threads, and they have never been mentioned. Great band, sound like a mix of Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, and Pink Floyd. And I have never heard of most of the bands mentioned in this thread!

It might be a bit off topic, but I'd like to let you know that you made me very happy by informing me of this (well, after I checked to make sure at least).

Architecture in Helsinki, Belle and Sebastian, Destroyer, The Hold Steady, Spoon, The New Pornographers, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

They're obscure unless you're into indie rock.
