"Seems" like a good idea

Just heard about this idea

now this appears to be a great idea but really find it hard to believe it could work in practice. It would require a lot of compliance and cooperation between so many different companies. What does the Escapist think of this idea?

I think it could "in theory" work, but media companies want you to buy more then one copy of a movie every time you change formats. So I don't think that the industry will jump in...

It sounds like a good idea, but jark212 is right. The goal of all industries is "make the most profit", so when consumers have to buy multiple copies of the same movie/game/whatever, it means more profit for the industries involved. No one would go for this.
